is there any place prior to Zubiri to sleep? I will be traveling from Roncesvalles and wish to stop a couple of miles prior to Zubiri.
Lintzoain is not far enough and even on booking.com or our aubergue list I can't find anyplace- even off Camino with a lift back on
thanks

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

You are correct there is no place after Lintzoain.

However to make the descent from Roncesvalles to Zubiri less onerous you might consider walking the camino path as far at the top of the Alto de Erro and then following on the left-side verges of N135, the road which generally parallels the camino in this area. Hence camino slippery scree and rough terrain are avoided.

Zubiri has several pleasant accommodation choices. In recent years my choice has been the private albergue El Palo de Avellano.

Buen camino!

mspath and I have discussed this alternative route on the forum and offline ;).
It is certainly an alternative route avoiding the steep descents into Zubiri.
And I should stress.....she has a wealth of experience on the Camino!

I took this route last year.
Just be aware that there are some sections where the left-side verge is non existent.
If you are of a nervous disposition....
You may be jumping crash barriers if you meet oncoming traffic on a hairpin

Everyone has different experiences ! However in many years of walking including autumn 2015 along the N135 or N120 I have never had a problem with vehicular traffic. Exhaustion, hunger, thirst, fog, rain or snow driffs of course but never traffic. ...What luck!!

Then I shall bow out and defer to your greater experience

I am obviously a total 'wimp' when it comes to handling oncoming traffic :(

If you get as far as Lintzoain you may as well go all the way to Zubiri. It's a nice little town.

I'm taking it REAL slow this year till Pamplona. So I'm stopping in Viscarret and then Akeretta. I already know I will be a bit restless (maybe) those afternoons when I arrive after only 3 hours of walking, but I did this on purpose. This year my goal is to relax and enjoy all scenery even more. Last year both my son and I found the 2nd day to be the hardest. To be clear....we started in Pamplona NOT SJPP, and walked the 2nd day from Puente de la Reina till 3 km past Estella. The first day we were so hyped that we could have done anything.....however the 2nd day we crashed ha ha . Anyway....this is what made me decide to take it easy the first few days this year....so what if I only walk 15 km day 2 and 3 ? :)

I did the shorter walking day thing a few times. It's nice and I liked it better than just taking a whole day off, which I did a couple of times, too.

I agree. Last year we took 2 days off and we kind of felt a bit "lost". (we lucked out and had no injuries or blisters, if we did, we may have loved those 2 days) So because this year is my short version Camino (just 2 weeks to satisfy my "need to go" ) I'm just making it a real relaxed one. Next year.....I hope to do the entire Camino...or maybe another route !
