I want to apologize if Joe and I are driving everybody crazy with all our questions about the different routes. I also wanted to explain why I'm asking so many questions.

We walked the Frances in 2006. We missed a few stages due to an injury. In the past year, we've had a nagging desire to return to the Camino, the same desire you who have been there all know about.

Our dream was to do the stretch from Astorga to Santiago, to pick up some of the stages we missed last time, so we could say we did the entire Frances, and also to walk the VDLP. We were in Sevilla in 2003 for Semana Santa and fell in love with the city and wanted to see more of southern Spain. However, the only time we could afford tickets was starting August 17, and once we began saying that's when we'd like to walk, we became concerned. People were saying, "Don't do it, it's too hot, not enough water, etc." We're not so much put off by the heat. I grew up in 103 degree summers. But the water situation concerns us.

So we began looking at all the other routes, trying to figure out which we might take. It's a bit like having your heart set on buying the perfect house, but when you go to buy it, it's gone, and now you have to find another.

We have three full months in Europe, so we need to watch our funds carefully. I live on less than $10,000 per year, so this is a HUGE decision for me. I have to stretch the cash I have.

We are taking a 1.5 pound screen tent for several reasons. The first is because I don't like bedbugs. I have a terrible reaction to their bite and I cannot use the chemical bedsheet. The second is because we really love sleeping under the stars, and would love to do that when possible. The third is to perhaps save a little money that we can spend when it's necessary to buy more expensive lodging.

We know that ANY route we take will be wonderful. And in the end, we'll fly into Santiago and go where the Camino takes us.

In the meantime, thank you all for your kind patience and for answering our kazillion questions.

Annie - we were already crazy. Asking and recieving advice and then offering your own experience to future pilgrims is how it works. Tranquillo. Your knowledge of pilgrimage on a budget will be invaluable to other pilgrims.
