Arriving Biarritz 21:10, too late to head to SJPDP?

Hi there,

I fly out to my Camino 28th August, and arrive Biarritz airport 21:10. I want to start walking the very next day, but looking at train times if I leave Bayonne the following morning I don't get into St Jean Pied de Port till about 09:30. This seems too late to start my first day, as I need to get a Camino 'passport' and wanted to cover a nice amount of ground.

So I was thinking of getting a taxi direct from Biarritz to SJPDP, however I won't get in till close to 11pm. Is this too late to get in. I've already been turned down from 2 hostels as I'll be too late.

Thanks,

Lloyd

Why not stay overnight in Bayonne. Train in the morning, get credential and walk to Orisson? (You need to book Orisson in advance). Then onwards to Roncesvalles the next day.

As Al the Optimist suggests why not stay in Bayonne? Take a taxi from the airport and spend the night in a small hotel such at the Monte Carlo which is conveniently opposite the railroad station . Here is their web >> http://hotel-montecarlo.allcommerces.com/. Next morning you can easily catch an early TER line 62 train to SJPdP. Here is that schedule until July 6, 2013 (on the second screen) >> http://telechargement.ter-sncf.com/Imag ... -42307.pdf. You can buy the ticket at the station; price is roughly 10 euros; no reservation needed since open seating.

Bon Voyage and Buen Camino,

Mspath,
Tried to send you a pm - couldn't do that (actually don't know how to to be truthful, I'm a technophobe), what I wanted to say was......" See............?!? your answer to this question is exactly what I was trying say to you".

John,

Point taken! Glad to be of help.

As for sending a PM, it's VERY easy. Either hit the PM tab on their post beneath the ID avatar of the member to whom you wish to write or go to the Members List in the top blue Forum header, scan this which is alphabetical by joining date to find their User Name, hit it and once on their profile page, hit Send a PM. In both possibilities a blank post addressed to the member will appear. Write your message and hit send. Bingo!

Try it now!

Happy posting,

Margaret Meredith

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Are there any reasonably priced hotels in SJPP that will allow you to check in at 11:00pm. I am deciding whether to stay in Bayonne for the night or go straight to SJPP. I am fine with the 9:30 getting in the morning. I can't seem to find this hotel monte carlo everyone is saying to stay at in Bayonne. I was planning on staying in Orisson the first night. Any suggestions where to stay in Orisson. Someone stated to make reservation.

Here is the Monte Carlo Hotel/Restaurant web site .
It faces the Bayonne SNCF station; nothing fancy but fine.

Here are three separate listings from the SJPdP Office de Tourisme for
pilgrim albergues, hotels and chambres d'hotes in SJPdP itself.

Click here for Orisson. Reservations are a MUST!
