Sorry to probably be redundant somewhere here, but I am on a time crunch and literally have just decided where I will start camino and am flying standby into Madrid some way or another so don't know times I will make it to Astorga....

Any suggestions for a clean , comfortable, easy to locate option accommodation for first night in Astorga after a probably couple day of milk run to get there?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Here is the handy Gronze.com list for accommodation in Astorga.
I usually stay in the albergue de Siervas de Maria which is on the east side of the city near the Roman ruins. Open all year and heated in winter it is a pleasant stop. Good kitchen facilities also.

Buen camino!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

Hotel Gaudi is also easy to find from the bus stop. Will be there later this autumn so can't say what it's like yet.

Hotel Gaudi is good with a pilgrims' menu, different from the "usual", in elegant restaurant. Super location!

Another vote for Hotel Gaudi! Very reasonable price and very comfortable if you have been travelling and want a good night's sleep before setting off on your way. The staff are very friendly and helpful - we got there before their checkin time and they let us leave our packs behind the desk and go out to explore, then took them up to our room for us when the room was ready. And if you ask for a room facing the plaza, you will have a wonderful view of the Bishop's Palace!

Siervas de Maria. I rang and booked ahead and requested a double room saying that we were two tired grandparents, which we are. They had none available, they weren't full but but she opened up an additional wing where there was a double room, to accommodate us. NB: Very expensive gins and tonics n the square!

I treat myself to a night in the Hotel Astur Plaza, right on the main square. Will be there again in two weeks time and I can hardly wait!

Unfortunately Hotel Gaudi is booked!
I'm currently in Frankfurt and due to a delayed flight, I won't make it to Astorga until around 4 AM coming off the bus from Madrid .. Finding somewhere that will accommodate at that time of the am to catch some sleep is unlikely I imagine ..,

Thought about just starting to walk right away but other than the obvious exhaustion from 2 days travel, is that I would miss checking out Astorga and getting my first stamp!!!

Any thoughts/suggestions on places that would accept pilgrims at that time of the am or other options would be great!!!! Thanks again !

Try the Astur Plaza, they are a big hotel and have 24 hour reception. They are also on booking.com if you feel more confident booking online than calling, but they do speak English. The hotel is very nice and not the cheapest but they do have good deals. I have been there twice. Breakfast is usually included and will set you up. Try it. I don't think any albergues will be open at that time, not until 5 or 6 and then they'll want to get people out, not in!
