We are leaving tomorrow to walk to Finisterre but have been told that there will be a bus strike 8 to 11 May which means there is no means of getting back to Santiago on the 10th. A taxi will be too expensive, given our South African/euro exchange rate . We are quite devastated and now have 4 spare days.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

Who told you? Is it Monbus who are on strike?

If you are that devastated, then take the taxi. Sometimes an experience that you will never forget outways its cost.
Seriously….a trip like this is a lifetime trip. I’ve learned along the way that I’ve never regretted spending the money (within reason) on an opportunity like this. Unless you can’t pay your mortgage or eat for days because of a taxi ride, then take the taxi ride.

These folks are from South Africa and the ZAR is a very weak currency, and is really suffering! I do understand their situation. It’s very different for many folks from USA/Canada, and even Europe, financially.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I just did the exchange and my advice was wrong. The exchange blows rights now. Maybe splitting the cost of a taxi? I’ve done that in other parts of the world.

I was in Muxia once when a bus strike happened, and four of us got a taxi back to Santiago for about 15 or 20 € each. You can get an idea of the cost by asking a cabbie in Santiago for the cost of going to Finisterre, and assume it will be roughy the same coming back. You can be sure you will find other peregrinos there who will want to get back to Santiago, so divide the price by 4.

Good luck, @jennysa.

I don’t have too much knowledge of the region but are there other connecting bus options even you go a different route. R2R shows nothing not assume theee may be some local buses that can do albeit an arduous journey.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Taxi from Finisterre is 200 euros. Our currency is 20.5 to the euro!!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Last weekend a friend booked a tour to those locations, maybe their tour bus would still run and you can at least see those places? Vs taking the public transportation back from those locations

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Flixbus operates this route.

There have been two other bus strikes in Galica in the last month. I don't think you will get anywhere on the bus based on what was said in the papers about the last two. School children, workers, tourists, etc. were unable to travel by bus.

Sorry I am missing something! Why not just book Flixbus?

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
I just tried to register for a ticket on May 8 and they are all sold out. The ones for the next two impending strike days don't have many seats left. Mostly in the evening.
Yes the OP needs to move quickly! Flixbus are a private company and assume won’t be impacted by strikes. It’s unclear to me if it is Monbus on strike or suppliers. Last month I needed to get from Leipzig to Berlin when pretty much all German public transport was on strike. Flixbus communicated quite a lot that they were not on strike and still operating.

Monbus at Santiago bus station confirmed this morning that the strike starts on Monday and is indefinite. It only affects Galicia, and not the longer distance buses.
I am not seeing a Flixbus option. Does anyone want to share a taxi from Muxia to Santiago on the 9th?

2 of us are probably taking a taxi from Fisterra tomorrow back to Santiago if anyone wants to join.

The strike called for May 8 in the passenger transport sector has finally been called off.Screenshot_20230507_201732_Twitter.jpg

Just an add-on to this comment - I got back a week ago from the Camino & we walked on to Finisterre. We did not have time to walk to Muxia but I wanted my first timer friend to see it so I searched taxis here. I found a link to Ismael Montero Lago, Taxi Fisterra. He picked me up at the lighthouse, went back into town & picked my friend up at his hotel, drove us to Muxia & let us walk around for about 20 - 30 minutes, then took us back to San Martin Pinario in Santiago for 120 euros! I had gotten a quote from another service of 400 euros! So a shoutout to Ismael & an FYI to those wanting taxi service around Finisterre/Muxia/Santiago!
