Hi,

Is it possible to catch a bus to Madrid somewhere between Astorga & Ponferrada? We are starting in Leon and not sure if we can reach Ponferrada in 5 days since Leon and Astorga offer a lot of sightseeing. How reliable are buses there? Somebody told us that their schedule is pretty relaxed.

Is there a good list of alberques? Last year we went late March (before Palm Sunday) and majority of private alberques were closed. Somebody told us that privates open a week before Easter. Should we expect the same late March this year?

Its about 105km from Leon to Ponferrada so easily walked in 5 days with sightseeing provided you are in reasonable walking conditions. In late March you may well hit snow between Rabanal and Acebo which will slow you down.

https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Rabanal-del-Camino/Madrid suggests a possible bus from Rabanal. That would be your last bail-out before Ponferrada. My long term experience of Spanish bus services suggests that they are reliable and punctual.

As to Albergues try here https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/resources/“all”-albergues-on-the-camino-frances-in-one-pdf.10/ or http://www.gronze.com/camino-frances

Bus from Foncebadon to Astorga is operated by Autocares Pedrin. You'll have to contact them to get a schedule. Anecdotal info is it runs one day per week, downhill in the AM and uphill in the PM.

I've not found any information about bus service from the border at Cruz de Ferro to Molinaseca.
