I too am starting out in September, arriving in St Jean on the 3rd and have also booked into Orisson for the night of the 4th to break myself in gently. I am so encouraged to hear of other solo walkers, I am a 62 year old female from England. Just wondering how many weeks to allow for the walk as need to book return flight to the UK - am thinking of 6 weeks to allow for the occasional day off and also not to feel under too much pressure each day. Does this sound about right?

Like so many others - the planning seems to fill each day. I'm about to start listening to Spanish CDs to hopefully learn a few words!!

Looking forward to meeting up with you all

Kay

Six weeks will allow an unhurried pace. In case you walk faster, have some ideas in mind when you get to Santiago early. You can find a lot of suggestions and ideas in the Forum. Have a great trip!

Greetings Kay,
Six weeks is lots of time. If you need a break when you get to Burgos, take the bus 75 miles south to Silos and hear the monks doing Gregorian Chant.

Arriving in Santiago is a climax. Three more days to Finisterre or Muxia is time to reflect on your pilgrimage.

You are in the prime of life to be a pilgrim. Walking "alone" gives you the opportunity to meet other pilgrims. Use your common sense and the way is safe.

Buen Camino,

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi Kay,

Im also starting in SJPP solo, first timer female but a little later, Sept 18th ish. Am taking 6 weeks, as Ive estimated a rest day each week and an average of 22kms a day. I really want to 'smell the roses', soak everything up and enjoy both people and solitude. Also to explore the 'off the main' track places and listen to my body when it needs to rest. I think we're making the right decision! Best of luck with the Spanish, There is another good thread about Spanish phrases if you sign up for the daily alerts, it was titled something like %$#@!learning languages! or similar. Maybe I will catch up with you on the way, best regards, Sabina
