We are thinking of doing a bit of Camino del Norte next year from San Sebastián to Bilbao .via Getaria , Deba,Markina,Gernica,Lezama,
Can anyone tell me what percentage of the route will be on asphalt or concrete following major roads. If we take alternate routes, will we find accommodation,in hotels or b& b’s, and would we have to walk say more than 25km per day to get to find reasonable accommodation ??
Or would there be a better alternative section with the same amount of days (6) to do without as much walking on asphalt or concrete.

We are walking the entire Norte starting next month and planing the stages now. We are spreadsheet pilgrims and also stay in private rooms. So far we were able to find hotels From San Sebastián to Bilbao about every 25kms or less every day. I’m using the gronze site And

I walked the Norte recently, finishing in June. To be perfectly honest, I don't recall too much road walking from Irun, and very little on major roads. Of course there is some asphalt, but it became much more noticeable in the latter stages, rather than in the early ones. From Bilbao is a nice stretch, although the part immediately leaving the city isnt.

The big question is how much mud walking there is on that section! 😂

It was mostly dry for me ....

I really dont remember much road walking early on, maybe I was just enjoying myself and the views too much
