Camino Norte-2017; Camino Ingles from A Coruna - 2017
Hi Everyone - I am currently on the Norte spending the night in Cobreces.

While walking through town I saw yellow arrows pointing in 2 different directions, one was labeled the "official route", the other the "alternative route." My guide book (Cicerone) does not say anything about an alternative route.

Can any of you Norte experts explain the difference between the two (distance, terrain, etc).

To add to my confusion, the hospitalera, who only speaks Spanish (my Spanish is"evolving.") via gestures indicated that I should take the 2nd alternative, not the first.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.

In October I took what I think is the alternative route - it went down to Playa de Luana and then stayed along the coast.

I'm not sure where it joins up with the camino again but I do remember it was a lovely walk (and well-marked) - and most pilgrims were going that way. I think it might be in the German guidebook?

buen camino

Thanks Norelle for your help.

You are already on your way (whichever route you decided to do) but want to mention that further along the Camino there are other options too, into Llanes for example. As SYates pointed out, the maps on Gronze show them. I am particularly fond of the website and have used it as my only info source for the Norte and Vía de la Plata. I have stopped carrying guides.

If you love the sea as I do, take whatever variation possible that keeps you close to the coastline.

Buen Camino, I'll be a week behind you as I return to Gijón on June 10th to pick up where I left off last October.

Buen Camino to you! I found the alternative route, no problems and had a lovely walk to San Vincente de la Barquera. Like I posted in my reply to SYates, I had forgotten how much good information there is on Gronze.
