Confusion between Hostels Juan de Yepes and Santa Brigida in Hontanas

Hello, I am wanting to book a bed in Santa Brigida hostel in Hontanas, but when I check booking website it keeps bringing up what appears to be a picture of Juan de Yepes hostal calling it Santa Brigida Real 1 and the Santa Brigida hostel is called Santa Brigida Real 19. Are they connected somehow? Even on the trip advisor website it is showing pictures of Juan de Yepes hosten under the Santa Brigida name. I used the form on the Santa Brigida website to try to book a bed in the dorm and got a reply from Juan de Yepes instead. I am confused....are both run by the same owner now?

Yes, it certainly looks like they have the same owner and are part of the same commercial entity. You can see this when you go on the websites of each of the two albergues and click on aviso legal where you get the same business address and the same business number and the same business name (ALBERGUE DE PEREGRINOS SANTA BRIGIDA Sociedad Limitada). So no need to worry. Ignore the photos on Tripadvisor but do check with the owner again that you are booked into the albergue of your choice if it is not clear from the content of the email. Buen camino!

Yes, they are owned by the same family. I reserved at St. Brigida in spring of 2018 and got a confirmation back from St. Brigada confirming me for that night. But when I arrived at the village that afternoon St. Brigada was closed and a sign on the door directed me to Juan de Ypes. The owner there had my name in his reservation book and said they were the same and my reservation was for Juan de Ypes. Confusing, yes. But I don't speak enough Spanish to have gotten the whole story.

It didn't matter. The albergue was beautiful, the facilities excellent, the company great, and the family that ran it as friendly and helpful as could be. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. I signed up for the communal dinner -- homemade paella served by the young man who checked me in, and a quince dessert made by his mom. Delicious.

But whether both albergues are now open or just the one.... sorry, can't help on that. Maybe someone who's passed through more recently will chime in.

Thank you Bala. Juan de Yepes does look very nice and clean and I guess it isn't a big deal. I have never had paella. So something to look forward to if it is available.

I stayed at Juan de Yepes on my first Camino. It's a very nice albergue, and as I recall, the showers there were great.

I never stayed at either one. But I definitely stopped at Juan de Yepes to either eat or have a coffee or a coke. I remember the place as soon as I saw the photos on Gronze. I thought it was nice after the long walk I had. I don't remember what I ordered and don't remember who, if anyone, I was with and I don't remember if it was good or the people were nice. But I was definitely there. How is that for a recommendation!!!

I stayed there overnight in mid-October 2018, it was clean, nice, had a computer for me to use, and the pilgrims meal (shared meal only, no shared prep or cleaning, alas) was a heartwarming experience. The place is small, not much to explore. The chairs outside are good to relax and have a smoke, too.

Me, too!

However, I remember what I believe was a large kitchen there. And there's also the restaurant itself. The communal dinner was in a private room in the back. So several choices -- at least there were 2 years ago.

Or you could just pass both and try Monasterio de San Antón just down the road. Not for the faint-hearted but quite a unique experience.

I wanted to stay at the monastery but they are not open toll June and I will be in Hontanas mid May. I am really disappointed!

Stayed at Juan de Yepes Oct. 2019. Same owner as Santa Brigida. Nice space, great communal meal. They have a little cafe for beverages and snacks upon arrival and for something to eat before heading out for the day. Recommend it.

My Brierley guide says summer though the Wise Pilgrim guide says May. I wonder if it’s possible to make it to San Anton in 1 day leaving Burgos? I think I am confusing San Anton with San Nicholas...
