I wonder -- could one walk from the Norte as far as Froxa - or thereabouts - then "cut" over to Sigüeiro and into Santiago and still get a Compostela? Might one find any waymarkings in that area?

We did something similar in September. We walked from Ribadeo to Foz and then along the ruta do mar to Ferrol. We were told we "qualified" for a compostela because we had walked from Ferrol. I had started in Biarritz but because I switched caminos, I really only walked from Ferrol in the eyes of the pilgrim's office. I don't think you would "qualify" for a compostela if you are not doing the last 100 km on an official route.

To obtain a Compostella one must have walked at least a contiguous 100km to Santiago. It doesn't matter a jot where you started, its the last 100k that count. There ain't nothing in the rules that says you have to have walked any 'official' route. You will, for the comfort of the volunteers at the Pilgrims Office have be able to demonstrate that you have fulfilled the basic criteria - plenty of sellos in your credencial and perhaps a copy of the Michelin map of Northern Spain ;)

Thank you, @Pilar and @Tincatinker , for these! I saw some of the "how many camino routes" then forgot about it  , so grateful for the reminder!! I think I'm now working on my next life list... :)

My group of six arrives in Irun on May 20 and we're starting our Camino on May 21. Since it's the beginning of the busy season, I'm wondering if we should order trekking poles from Amazon Espana...
Elevation map shows this is really steep! What’s the best way from downtown Hondarribia up there? Then wish me luck on the Purgatorio—I am a nervous wreck.
On the Norte...started Morgo headed to Santilanna del mer...today...wonderful walk.... 1st 7k and last 7k ...the middle industrail zone was meh. Just past polonca met loverly local spanish...
If anyone is in an albergues in or near Santillana del mar on the 1st of May and comes across Nadia from Ottawa would they kindly point her in the direction of this thread. Thanks all.....
