Here is an excellent video on how to make sure the groceries you take home from the store or parking lot pick up service are fully decontaminated...Why put yourself at further risk?
Too bad you cannot listen. He sterilized the whole table, then put the contaminated plastic on the left side, then disposes it after. He is a doctor and always has used similar in surgeries to not infect patients.I can't turn on the sound in my present environment...
But I see too much plastic, dude!! (for example at 05:45) Is it really necessary...

Yes, that's true. But I found that the last time I shopped for fruit and vegetables, I used more plastic bags than usual, in an attempt to protect my produce from contact with possibly contaminated surfaces and hands. With a little time and practice, I expect to figure out a better shopping technique. Let's tackle one thing at a time!I see too much plastic
Why can't you use cloth shopping bags? You do know that the recent suggestion that they are somehow unclean is misinformation put out deliberately by a lobby group financed by oil and plastic companies.Excellent video. Interesting to know that, while heat kills the virus, freezing does not. I agree about the plastic, but in our town, at this time of COVID-19, we are not allowed to bring our cloth bags into the store.

I could never be that methodical and organized. I'm doomed!

In reference to the plastic shopping bags, one thing you can do is still use your cloth/enviro shopping bags but spray them all over
We can also no longer use our own bags. In the US store employees normally do the bagging and this keeps them from catching Covid19 from bags that may be contaminated.I agree about the plastic, but in our town, at this time of COVID-19, we are not allowed to bring our cloth bags into the store.
Dang! I usually quote my sources, habit as a computer scientist. I apologise for not doing so this time.Dang! I knew it...!
Uhm... Do you have a source to support that claim?

I had just read the article on The Guardian and now I can't find it again.
What it said is that this research (https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2004973?query=featured_home) that shows that Covid 19 can persist on plastic surfaces for 72 hours triggered the publishing of the misinformation. It traced the misinformation back to one specific lobby entity and then traced the finance for that entity. This showed the money coming from the oil and plastic companies.
It was great investigate journalism but I can't find it again ☹
Here in NZ, grocery stores no longer bag for customers, the customer bags their own groceries (since the Covid 19 lockdown). This means that we all still use our multiuse bags.We can also no longer use our own bags. In the US store employees normally do the bagging and this keeps them from catching Covid19 from bags that may be contaminated.
I guess many can do with better food hygiene but this guy, even though he is a GP who stand in his GP outfit in his kitchen, lost me as an attentive audience after 2 minutes 17 seconds when he said: Data we received from the CDC that found that on cruise ships they discovered active coronavirus particles 17 days later. Here is an excellent video on how to make sure the groceries you take home from the store or parking lot pick up service are fully decontaminated...

I like to understand the facts. I don't like it when people try to scare me with imprecise and fuzzy information, no matter how noble their intention may be.
Is this perhaps the article?
How big plastic is using coronavirus to bring back wasteful bags
No one knows whether reusable bags really do spread the virus, but the risk is probably low.www.motherjones.com
More good tips..."one" article, video or news program can not cover everything. We keep getting new information(facts?) on covid19 almost daily. And then you sit down to watch TV and pick up your remote controller which is covered with e-coli bacterium . . . there was a programme on UK TV this week where they took an average household and collected swabs for analysis - bear in mind this wasn't a dirty house.
The swab from the remote even had the bacteriologist reeling in shock.
BTW, when did you last disinfect your mobile phone? Yep, that's contaminated too and you put it right by your face.
It certainly raised my level of awareness even further which is a good thing so thank you for posting the clip. I had received a grocery delivery yesterday. I discovered that I had a decade old bottle of disinfectant at the back of a storage place. I wiped exactly one plastic package of cheese with it before I decided to google, gave up on it and changed my approach. Even more hand washing now ...I believe it is still an excellent video on ways to help deal with your groceries once you bring them home. We all can use some practical advise to help curb the spread of the virus. Learning a few extra tips is a good thing, irregardless.
I saw a photo of a guy picking up his coffee from a Maccy D drive through and spraying the disposable cup with sanitiser before taking it - anything to improve the taste I guessIt certainly raised my level of awareness even further which is a good thing so thank you for posting the clip. Pick some reliable sounding source on the internet and you find: Researchers examined the Diamond Princess, a cruise ship that was quarantined off Yokohama in Japan last month, and found coronavirus RNA—genetic material—in the cabins of infected passengers up to 17 days after the ship was vacated but before it had been disinfected. However, the CDC noted, “viral RNA doesn’t necessarily mean live virus was present.” So we can’t say for sure whether people would have been infected if they had come into contact with the surfaces where the virus was found.
Or google for reactions from actual virologists: It’s very important to remember that viral RNA will survive longer than actual infectious virus.

This article suggests that it is not a good idea to wash fruit and vegetables with (toxic) soap: https://www.livescience.com/do-not-wash-fruits-vegetables-with-soap.htmlI found this
New CDC research conducted on the Diamond Princess cruise ship found traces of the coronavirus on some of the ship’s surfaces up to 17 days after passengers disembarked. But traces are not the same thing as live viruses.
PolitiFact - There’s no evidence COVID-19 can survive on surfaces up to 17 days

I have to admit that I didn't watch the video above, but I have developed my own system for bringing groceries into the house.
The back of my car is the cleaning and containment zone. I keep a container of antibacterial/antiviral cleaning solution and cloths back there. Packaged foods that need to be refrigerated or frozen get wiped down before I put them in a clean box to bring into the house. I bring fruits vegetables like zucchini, apples, peppers etc. into the kitchen and place them in the sink to be washed with soap and water.
Packaged foods that don't need to be refrigerated are left in the garage until needed.
I used a pickup grocery service yesterday. Everything had been packed in paper bags. After putting everything away in the house or garage I took the paper bags to the garbage bin. Other than the fruit/veg that went into the sink nothing came into my house without being cleaned first, so I didn't have to worry about sanitizing my counters.
I was mislead - it was a Tim Horton's in London, Ontario.A photo --> put it in the Fun Thread Section for us all to behold!
Well if the virus doesn't get me then the soap probably will! This article suggests that it is not a good idea to wash fruit and vegetables with (toxic) soap: https://www.livescience.com/do-not-wash-fruits-vegetables-with-soap.html
I knew that all those little bars of soap that I've collected from hotels would come in handy sometime! With all the shelves cleared of anti bacterial hand wash....it makes me wonder if people ever actually washed their hands before this.
In reality any soap will do....bars of soap, gel ....plain or , smelly ,even washing up liquid,
