Cruz de Ferro to Saria by bus/train

Hola!! We are currently on the Camino with our two children (fyi currently in Carrion de los Condes). It is taking a little longer than we thought. We are walking much slower than we anticipated so it seems we are walking all day long and the boys require more rest days (who am I kidding - so do we!!!).

We will reach Leon in about 4 days and have decided to have a couple of rest days there. They boys REALLY want to go to Cruz de Ferro but then we will need to fast forward from CdF to Sarria.

So my long winded way of asking 3 questions:

1. What town after seeing Cruz de Ferro can we catch public transport to Sarria

2. How do we get from CdF to Sarria? Ie bus/train/where can we find a timetable and will we need to change or can we travel directly

3. Sarria to Santiago, some of the guided daily distances are too far (ie 27+ km/day) which is too far for all of us - can anyone recommend towns to stay in that are max of approx 20kms apart.

There is no public transport between Cruz de Ferro and Sarria but you might walk from CdF to El Acebo de San Miguel and spend the night or call for a taxi to take you 17km to Ponferrada
From Ponferrada you can get a train to Sarria.

Another option, instead of busing ahead from just past the Cruz Ferro, you could bus ahead from where you are now. If you are still in Carrion de los Condes, you could bus ahead to Leon from there - make up the 4 days right there. Or if you have left Carrion de los Condes already, you could walk to Sahugun and take the train to Leon from there - make up a couple days.

I really enjoyed the walk from the Cruz Ferro to Sarria, so it would be a shame to miss it. Ponferada has a Templar castle, Villafranca al Bierzo is a neat town with a cool square, O'Cebreiro has really neat round stone buildings. I enjoyed that section a lot more than Carrion de Los Condes to Leon, so if I had to skip something, that's what I'd skip - and keep the stuff after Cruz Ferro.

How cold is it at the moment. There's a great swimming pool in the river at Molineseca for the kids, but its probably too cold
Plus there's the Templar castle at Ponferada, you could taxi between towns for a bit, save your legs but still see the highlights
