Does anyone know if any of the alburgues (public or private) on the VDl are still open?

On the Via de la Plata? You can assume they are. However consult an up to date guidebook for seasonal closures and also check locally - often albergues close for works in low season. I walked in January and found no difficulty with accommodation.

I just arrived in Salamanca and the Pilgrim albergue is closed. Fortunately the youth hostel is open. Perhaps they are making repairs to the pilgrim hostel. I didnt bother to check, it's pouring.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
The albergue 7 km before Villafranca de los Barros in the oliveyards is closed. Pity, such a lovely spot. But: found out there are 2 new albergues in the village, that didn't not have one 2 years ago. Staying in a very nice one at the moment, Tierra de Barros, run by pablo, who is not here at the moment, but his father is a terrific guy who told me that p started the place in their old family house because he couldn't get a job. Very nice.
