Dropping car rental and then on to Sarria

Hi, I'm having a tough time figuring out how/if I can get to Sarria on a Sunday. My friend and I are renting a car in Barcelona and traveling across Spain for a few days before starting our Walk in Sarria. We need to arrive in Sarria on a Sunday and I'm wondering if this is going to cause us trouble. Hoping someone can advise.

If we drop our car off in Lugo (Sarria has no car drop off) then we must arrive on Saturday by 1 as that is the close up time of all the car rental places. Not ideal but we'll do that if we feel confidant we can get to Sarria on a Sunday bus (or train). Btw - does anyone know if there is much to see in Lugo?

The other option that seemed nice was to arrive in Leon on Sunday morning and then bus or train to Sarria from there. That works fine as far as dropping off the car but then we seem stuck - I can't find a train or bus on a Sunday from there. Could this be? Our trip is in June, do you think I'm looking too far ahead or do they not run on Sundays.

Any other budget minded ideas on how we might get to Sarria that day? Seems like taking a cab would be much faster but it's too expensive I think. Are there other driving services that we could trust?

Leon would be our first choice (just to give us the extra day) but we admit to not really having any clue on this so would love to be advised.

Thanks again for any advice you can offer, Rocky

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
ALSA provides bus service from Leon to Lugo.

Monbus provides bus service from Lugo to Sarria and Monforte de Lemos to Sarria. The schedule that Falcon posted is from Sarria website and shows Monbus schedule.

Renfe provides train service from Leon to Sarria.

My advice is drive to Lugo (or Monforte de Lemos) and take the bus to Sarria from there. Frequency of service by both train and bus from Leon is limited and the trip is time consuming.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
We are going to take your advice and go to Lugo - really appreciate the info!
