Favorite places and or accommodation from Santander onwards

Hi all, I ve got just over a week starting Camino in Santander in direction of Oviedo.... no destination in particular..... which accommodations, Albergues or other hostels, pensioners etc were your favorites or which villages, beachside or note were also special...so I can have an idea or where to stop.... many thanks for your personal recommendations if possible!

If you are going to Villaviviosa and continuing to Oviedo to the Primitivo or back up to the Norte the Monasterio at Valdedios with its very basic albergue is a very beautiful walk through the forest roads. There are about 30 young Carmelite nuns who live there, run the albergue (donation i believe) and a more upscale albergue.

Well, you could just walk to Santillana del Mar. Picasso described it as the "most perfect village in Spain". Check in to the Parador. In the "old" building suite 6 has the step-down Jacuzzi and separate wet-room. Other accommodations are available.

Comillas has little to attract the discerning pilgrim but Llanes, ah Llanes. Llanes has Pension Iberia and the Bar Colon. Drink Sidra, eat Percebes, plan a camino

Well, you could just walk to Santillana del Mar. Picasso described it as the "most perfect village in Spain". Check in to the Parador. In the "old" building suite 6 has the step-down Jacuzzi and separate wet-room. Other accommodations are available.

Comillas has little to attract the discerning pilgrim but Llanes, ah Llanes. Llanes has Pension Iberia and the Bar Colon. Drink Sidra, eat Percebes, plan a camino

Santillana del Mar, as the Spanish say ´Ni Santos ni Mar´ Santillana del Mar ´no saints nor sea´ it is a little inland, but it is beautiful, if a trifle touristy.

Maybe nothing special in the way of accommodations, but Gaudí's Capricho is wonderful

@trecile of course. You are right. Its a decade at least since I walked the Norte, I wasn't on Camino, just walking, and I'd forgotten. Rummaging finds a diary that also suggests a couple of enjoyable bars, but from that decade ago. Llanes is somewhere I've since dropped in whenever a reasonable excuse could be found I love the Rocamar at Poo de Llanes too. The rooms are a bit tacky and the restaurant isn't quite as good as they claim but that view and that early morning swim...

Hotel Los Angeles in Santillana had a couple of rooms with patio overlooking park in front that we enjoyed.

We also had some rest days in Llanes that were terrific

Howya Lucy... oh so you d also recommend Valdedios.... name of convent? Thanks.... any other highlights....!? Only on a short walk of eight days so want to cram in good stops!

Gracias Tincatinker....dreaming of those places now!
Santillana del Mar.....as the say goes: "Ni es santa, ni llana, ni del mar" but Picasso must have been right as I felt in love with the place at the age of 12!
Mind you that is an ancient magic place which once was by the sea and with Altamira caves a now UNESCO world heritage site..
And Llanes, well my heart sings everytime I go there.
Many days & even more nights.... de fiestas!
And yes, those visiting must have sidra y marisco and plan a return!
A memorable day was travelling from Mieres to Llanes en el train de San Roque, the train decorated for the festivity and people playing bagpipes & singing all the way...and then arrive in Llanes to a procession to La hermita de San Roque with 1,500 people walking through town with their traditional clothes and music....followed by lots of marisco y sidra and a street fiesta into the early hours!
Don't miss it if you are in the camino in August!
