Finisterre to Porto?

Camino Frances, Summer 2024
Hi there! What is the quickest way to get from Finesterre to the Porto airport after my Camino? I'm thinking of taxi from Finesterre to Santiago de Compostela, and then catch either a morning bus or train to Porto Airport for a 4:20 P.M. flight home. But, I have just spent hours researching this, and I cannot find any train or bus schdules. Are there regular routes from SDC to Porto? Do they leave at regular intervals throughout the day so that I can be assured of getting one? Do I need to book in advance? Where do I do that?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
How far ahead are you looking for this information? Usually train and bus schedules are not put out until a month or so ahead of time. You can look on Trainline to get some idea of options later this month. Looks like there is a route on Flixbus. Also some longer train/bus options showing. I just put in Oct. 27, 2023. That can give you some idea of the schedule. Monbus is the bus company from Finesterre back to Santiago.

Hi @AR1965, I see you are planning to travel in June 2024. May 2024 would be a good time to look at bus & train schedules or pop into the bus station in Santiago before you walk on to Fisterra. To give you an idea of availability just check out Monbus & ALSA for buses and RENFE for trains for any random weekday or weekend day next week.

Generally there is a regular bus service from Fisterra (note spelling) to Santiago and regular buses from Santiago to Porto. There are also trains from Santiago to Vigo and thence to Porto. I believe that option involves a change of train stations in Vigo.

Happy planning

I guess I wanted an early indication of whether or not this is feasible, as it affects my flight times or the need to stay overnight in Porto. It looks like the latest flights from Porto to Chicago are 4:20P.M., and so I'd need to know if it's feasible to leave early from Finesterre (correct spelling unless you're speaking Galician) and make an afternoon flight out of Porto.

My experience with recent air travel is that things can change quickly. I would allow yourself some flexibility if possible. I just posted yesterday on an another thread that our flights home on 3 different airlines (United, Air France, Lutfhansa) in the last 3 years were all cancelled and had to be rebooked while I was in Spain or en-route home. Also when you buy a plane ticket this early, you will find the airlines often change your ticket and the times and connections going over as well. Best wishes on your planning. It can be fun, but also can be frustrating when something doesn't go as you had carefully planned it.

I don't think that you will regret giving yourself an extra day or two. And as @J Willhaus said, if you are booking this far in advance there is a high probability that flight times will change.

Finesterre (correct spelling unless you're speaking Galician)
It's Finisterre in Spanish, and Fisterra in Galician.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Correct. I was responding to an earlier commenter's attempt to mansplain the spelling to me.

@Tincatinker gave a very good response in my opinion.

When I tried to book my bus from Fisterra to SDC last month I got no options when I input Finisterre. Thats when I realised I needed to use Fisterra instead.

And then I could book my ticket.

I got zero results plugging in either one (shrug).

¡Hola!
