This is my first time walking the Camino. Hopefully I'll make some great friends. I'm a bit of a history nut, so I'm interested in the history of the Camino and its legends. I'm out of Atlanta, GA the home of BBQ and sweet tea. I walking from August 27th to October 5th. Hopefully I haven't taken on more than I can chew.

Colin Decker,

Welcome to the forum!

You will find lots of helpful topics and threads here for planning your camino.

Since you are interested in camino history and traditions you might enjoy reading or scanning
The Pilgrimage Road to Santiago: The Complete Cultural Handbook by David M. Gitlitz and Linda Kay Davidson which is available as both a paperback and ebook on Amazon.

Happy research and Buen camino!

We all start learning to chew more ...

Hi Colin,
I echo the sentiment to get the book that MSPath and Kitsambler recommend: The Pilgrimage Road to Santiago: The Complete Cultural Handbook by David M. Gitlitz and Linda Kay Davidson.

It has historical facts about buildings, churches, and artwork each town. If you saw everything in each town, you'd be on the Camino for months and months! I would also listen to Dave W.'s podcast located in this forum under podcasts about "The Pioneers" where David is interviewed about taking college students on the Camino a few decades ago and the writing of the book.

Enjoy! I might suggest downloading the eBook and just looking at the towns where you will pass through the night before. It is too much to take in the whole book before you are at least a little familiar with the terrain.
