Jacobslied, a 15th or 16th century hymn or song sung by German pilgrims which includes a description of the physical appearance of pilgrims at that time. Anyone have the words in modern German or better, my German is worse then my French, in translation to English? Thanks

Thank you very much, yes that's it and still very true and moving today, I particularly liked the verse:

Is ligen fünf berg in welschen lant, There are five mountains in the Frankish kingdom
die seint uns pilgram wolbekant: Well known to us, pilgrims,
Der erst haist Runzevalle, The first one is called Runzevalle, (Roncesvales of course)
und welcher bruoder darüber get, And when a brother crosses its
ein backen werden im schmale. His cheeks turn pale.

As everyone who has walked out of St Jean Pied de Port in March knows so well.
