I have ‘itranslate ‘ on my iphone as backup. It’s free and you can switch to almost any language. See it in writing and hear it (voice).On Apple platform, you can find: ITranslate. Has multiple languages.

Thanks for your help Sio Camino,much appreciate.WordReference is excellent - the app is very good and the online forum is good for phrases and colloquialisms.
I favour the deepl translator (www.deepl.com) over google (much better for translate the meaning of a sentence rather than word for word) but that website doesn’t have an app as far as I know.

It’s not perfect, but ok. When I’ve used it to help me doing my ‘Duolingo’ lessons ., I find that ‘itranslate ‘ and ‘google translate ‘ sometimes differ as there is never a real ‘right way ‘ to express some thoughts. Even English speakers choose different words or grammar.
But itranslate is a good start. You do need internet though.
It will be interesting to follow here to see what you end up with.
