from texas to spain today--------------I'M OFF THEN!

howdy y'all.

i fly out today from hot humid houston to madrid............a "drier" heat. i am ready as i'll ever be. so how hot has it been in texas this summer???????????

Hot as a billy goat in a pepper patch.
So hot the hens are laying hard-boiled eggs.
Hot as a summer revival.
Hotter than honeymoon hotel.
Hotter than a burning stump.
Hot as a pot of neck bones.

you get the point...it's been hot! and humid...........always a bad hair day.

i'll head to Jaca for 2 weeks of spanish lessons then off to pamplona then on to SJPDP. i'll start my trek september 4th with fellow "heat trained" pilgrim, arlene from tuscon. my training did not go as planned---plantar fasciitis then peroneal tendonitis so i'll take it slow, smell the roses and just enjoy. :D

many thanks to all of you who have given me excellent advice and support.

can't wait to meet y'all along THE WAY :D

Yes. The Spanish lessons are a great idea, but you'll still probably not understand people's responses if you only have the basics so there will still be a bit of the usual confusion.

That's not the point, though. People will see you're making the effort, respecting their language, country and culture, and respond accordingly.

Buen Camino!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Good one Trekker - glad you're on track.I'm ahead of you by a couple of weeks but you may catch me even so.kiwiDavid
ps:had the same kinda problems when training - seem to resolve when eased up a bit.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Howdy,
I, too, hope to be starting out around the 4th from SJPP. Being from Dallas, not only have we had the heat, but tonight they start aerial spraying of permethrin! Evidently, we're the epicenter for mosquito carrying West Niles Disease! Not good...
I'll have my Texas Flag patch, as well as the Forum shell patch. Hope to meet up with you and spin a yarn or two re: our fabulous Texas Republic!
Buen Camino, fellow traveler...

Nice. I met about 12 fellow Texans on the Camino. Kind of surprised me to be honest!

Is there a list of albergues that also have private rooms on the Camino Frances? Gracias.

I started out from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on 1 May. It turned out to be an unforgetable day. Above 1,000 m or so it snowed, catching many people unprepared. Later that day "many" walkers were...
And another attempt looms, to buy a decent Poncho after trying and failing in the previous two likely towns. Anyone know where an Altos or similar might be bought in Leon, please? 😁
