Can anyone tell me if I can get the compostela on a friends behalf and in that case do I have to have any of her documents apart of her pilgrims passport. She will walk with me from Burgos to Ponferada (265 km) but will have to go home because of the work.
Thank you

Guides that will let you complete the journey your way.

Zoran k......sorry to tell you but it is only the last 100 klms to the cathedral that qualifies for the compostela , so anything walked before that is irrelevant as far as the compostela is concerned . Of course your friend can always continue the pilgrimage another year with the same pilgrim passport .

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
All pilgrims desiring a Compostela MUST present themselves in person at the Pilgrim Office to request the Compostela. They must present the required evidence, in the form of a properly stamped and dated credencial that establishes they walked AT LEAST the final 100 km of any accepted route into Santiago.

By way of an example, in 2016, I started from Madrid, making made it as far as Sarria before unrelenting pain in my hips, knees, and ankles compelled me to stop my Camino about 118 km shy of the Cathedral at Santiago. I did not claim a Compostela for that pilgrimage.

The sole exception is that you can dedicate YOUR compostela to another person who is either deceased or whose physical condition means they will never accomplish a Camino. You are considered to have done your Camino 'in place of' the other person. The latin term "In Vicare Pro" along with the other person's name (given name in Latin) is written at the bottom of YOUR compostela. You request this annotation when you arrive at the processing counter.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your answers.
Case closed :(

Why the sad smiley? Do you want another Compostela yourself?
I asked for a Finisterra once for my sister (cause of blisters she couldn't walk all of it).
Well, I didn't get two papers, but the one I've got had her name on it.

As far as I know there is a portuguese guy walking for money to any place you like. I'm not sure if I read it or if I saw it on TV. At least apart from doing Fatima, Rome and Santiago pilgrimages, he also did Machu Pichu for someone who paid. If he only walks for male person and lies about the name or if he really fits into "In Vicare Pro" rule I don't know.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
