Getting from Irun to Logrono

We are picking up where we left off on the Camino last summer, 2008, and walking a week from Logrono this June. One friend is travelling by train from UK to Irun (Spanish border) and is now trying to work out how to get up to Logrono as swiftly as possible to start walking from there. Any suggestions? Rail or bus? Via Pamplona, or another route? All suggestions welcome.
