Hello I'm from DC and I found out about Camino de Santiago when I saw the movie "The Way" on British Airways, going to Dubai. I'm 44 y/o married 8 yrs in oct, I want to walk with my husband for our 10th wedding anniversary in 2013, I also want to walk alone for my 50th bday! I'm an advanced beginner in Spanish I went to Guatemala for 1 month stayed with a family to learn in the culture. I did a 1 month homestay in Samara beach Costa Rica. It helped my Spanish a great deal. I'm very spiritual at heart I have so many other reasons to walk the Camino de Santiago. Any advice about getting ready. Peace N Blessings All! :D

Buen Camino.

The search engine was playing up this morning so I couldn't find the specific URL, so when you get the time type in "Walking with a Companion" and follow the thread of the same name. It is a good thread for you and your husband to read.

When walking by myself I prefer to use the term, solo. Alone suggests loneliness and unwelcome isolation and while the Camino can sometimes bring those things it is also the harbringer of new friends, silence, solitude and a holy space.

On the morning of my 50th Birthday I went at 8.20 to the cathedral in SDC. When the doors opened I went directly to the crypt where morning Mass was being celebrated ie behind the iron gate and on the altar directly in front of St James' coffin.

It was a very special moment. I cannot guarantee that there will be such a Mass on the morning of your 50th, but it is worth thinking about. There will certainly be the Pilgrim Mass at 11.00.

If you want other suggestions as to where to be on your 50th just ask.

You will get all sorts of advice!

Welcome to the Forum and the Class of 2011!

As JW said, check out the FAQ and the Search tab at the top right of the page...if you can't find an answer to your most vexing question..ask!

The other members of the Forum have asked similar questions at one time or another and, over the years, have become valuable sources of accurate information, opinions factual, farcical, and down right funny.

Enjoy and Buen Camino,

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I would say your Camino has already begun. You know you will walk it. The longing is there. It won't leave you till you walk it. Then, it will be a whole different story. Better still :)

i love the subconscious camino preparation youve been doing
most of us have been preparing like you for most of our lives
we just dont know it
until theres that seemingly insignificant spark that ignites our dreams
.
? camino miracles
i think so

Welcome to the forum.
We walked the Camino together this year. A truly wonderful experience. We had to work at finding a comfortable walking pace that suited us both etc...., as we have put on the thread that methodist.pilgrim.98 mentions.

The search engine seems to find many non forum sites trying to link folk up with a companion. If you meant the one on the forum it is here Walking with a Companion

Thats the one Tia.

It showed up on the search engine but I couldn't get to it even when I'd clicked the URL. Maybe just a bad hair day?
