glutenfree food

We have a question about glutenfree food:

I have celiac. This means I've to eat glutenfree food.
The main problem will be the bread.
Is it possible to buy glutenfree food, especially bread, along the Camino Frances?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Ger/thea,

Even vegatarian food is not always easy to get...but it depends how you travel and I think that you will make your own food. Not all the refugio's have a kitchen and if there is one most pot+pans are not present anymore.
In most villages there's only a (little)supermercado and I cannot remember anything about glutenvrij brood (this is mostly in aparte verpakking?).
Het zal niet meevallen!
It will not be easy!

Buen Camino,

paul

Hi Reuver,

As you may (or may not know) I have not walked the camino, but I have lived about a year and a half in Santiago de Compostela.

In the food stores in Galicia, you will find some gluten free food in the "health food section" of the store.

My worry is that when you are walking in smaller villages, that you might have problems finding this kind of food.

I don't know much about your illness, but can you eat for examples potatoes, eggs and some onion? If so, this is part of the receipt for my favorite Spanish food. La Tortilla. You will find it everywhere, and it is quite filling. Alternatively would be a more vegetable diet. Not sure.

In the biggest food stores I think you will find the gluten free food, in the smaller ones maybe no.

Buen Camino,
Ivar

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi Reuver,

I think it's gonna be hard to find glutenfree bread and food along the way.
Are you planning to walk or cycle? That might be a difference as well, since you're moving faster by bike.
The bigger towns will not be a problem I think, but the smaller ones, that have only a small tienda/supermarkado... Can't imagine that they have "glutenfree" stuff. Also I would recommend learning the Spanish word for glutenfree... just in case you get a miscommunication.

Maybe someone here knows... I know one can send things ahead to Santiago de Compostella (let's say clothing) Does anybody know if there are other places you can send things ahead to?

That way you can always send things you are allowed to eat to a bigger town/city. But it depends on how allergic you are ofcourse.
(than again... I wouldn't send my bread a week ahead  )

Hello everybody,

We'll thank you all for trying to help us. We'll be walking so its not possible to take al lot of bread with us. But we heard from someone that in several supermercato's glutenfree things could be buyed. But he didn't speak out of experience. So the question is still: does anyone know if this is so?
