Hi from Cindy and Caity --

My daughter and I plan to walk from Sarria to Fisterra this June, right after she graduates high school. We're sorting out transportation now, considering flying into La Coruna (rather than SDC) and taking a bus (taxi? $$$?) from there to Sarria.... If you have any experience/ideas/suggestions to share, we'd really love to hear it... Thanks -- C&C

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
How wonderful to be walking with your daughter!!
If you fly to Coruna, why not get a bus to el Ferrol and walk the Camino Ingles to Santiago instead? It will be quieter, just as scenic, and easier to get to.

Hello C&C,
Here are trains from La Coruña to Sarria. I've attached the schedule according to http://www.renfe.es

Good luck and buen camino!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hi, Alex --

I just found your reply to our post this morning -- Thanks so much for this information!

Unfortunately, I tried to book our train tickets today on the RENFE site, but couldn't get beyond the "forma de pago" point...and my Spanish is atrocious, so I'm not sure what I am misunderstanding/doing wrong. When I tried the English-friendly RENFE site, Sarria doesn't come up as a destination on the pull-down menu, and I can't input it anywhere.

Does my American Mastercard not work for booking tickets online in Spain? Or am I trying to buy tickets too far in advance? If you have any ideas or suggestions, I'd appreciate your insight...

Thanks again!!

What a wonderful time in life to be walking with your daughter. I'm envious. Have a wonderful camino.

Oh, and the Renfe site? Horrible. No one can easily navigate it. In my experience you can buy a ticket when you get there - I've never been on a train that's full in that area, and buying the ticket at the station is very easy.

Buen camino!

The camino Frances from Sarria is going to be VERY crowded. Perhaps you could consider doing the lovely Camino Ingles from el Ferrol instead? It passes through very similar landscapes, eucalyptus forests, small farming hamlets and villages but much of it is also along gorgeous rias.
You could get a bus from Coruna to el Ferrol and start walking the same day.

I agree with Sil. If I were in your situation, I would stay in the area and walk the Ingles. It will take a lot of fuss and worry (not to mention $) out of your planning, your arrival and the beginning of your camino. You will not be overcome with numbers of pilgrims, nor will there be such a rush every day to find a bed, which will be the situation walking from Sarria. If you begin in Ferrol, you also qualify for the Compostela.

We walked the Ingles last year and really enjoyed it. The trail is varied and so is the scenery and landscape, as Sil describes. There is plenty of accommodation from albergues to hostals and hotels - whichever you choose.

So there you go! Two votes for the Ingles! Let us know what you decide and how you make out!

Thanks, Lynne and Sil --

That is sound, been-there advice from both of you regarding the Camino Ingles vs. the Camino Frances....I'll discuss it with my daughter and we'll see which way we land.

And, just to say it, I've enjoyed all your comments on the Forum...it's nice to be able to crib notes off the hard-won wisdom of veteran pilgrims. I'm hoping that this is just the first of many Caminos for me, and my girl...but if not...hey, what a gift, right?

Thanks for all the help --

Cindy

ps If you're interested...Cait and I are writing a blog about this experience. I've included the link below. I'm such a Luddite when it comes to this stuff...you probably already know, the most recent post comes up first, so to read in chronological order, you scroll down and read "up"...
Thanks again!
