How soon to book accomodation

Hello all,

Its been a while since I've posted but have been reading all the posts with great interest. Particularly inspiring was a recent post about FEAR (which I believe was a brave post) and the replies were all very encouraging.

Anyway back to the point ...Laugh My wife and I will be walking the Camino for the third time in late September and October this year and am slightly alarmed by some of the predictions of numbers this year. I saw something yesterday that said some 10 million "visitors" to Santiago are expected this year. Doesn't seem right to me but either way I know there will be a LOT of walkers and visitors.

We will be staying in hotels (not albergues), its a long story WHY we need to stay in hotels and not albergues but it just is that way. Anyway, and even though there is five and half months to go before we start I'm wondering whether we should start booking accommodation now, or how soon to start. A few weeks ago I would have thought it it was way too early but now I'm not so sure. I know from experience that some hotels with online booking systems etc are usually pretty safe to book well in advance but some of the smaller places in smaller towns who still use a notebook by the phone to keep a record of bookings it can be a bit risky,. So any advice or thoughts are welcomed.

Regards and Buen Camino to all

Pablo

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hi pablo i booked mine about 2 months in advance, i dont know what numbers are walking but you are off peak i cant imagine the camino being crowded in october.
The big towns were easy with hotel booking sites , john brierleys book 'a pilgrims guide to camino de santiago was a great help for the smaller stops
