I guess I took a different path from Sarria to Santiago because...

...the trail was practically empty
...the albuerges all had room, even when we arrived after 5pm
...the public alburgues were especially unfolded, including the one in Ligonde that we had completely to ourselves
...I didn’t see the scammers, thieves, and crass commercialism that is supposed to thrive on the last 100km
...it didn’t rain
...the few tour groups I saw were full of infectious joy, reminding me of the excitement of starting the Camino journey
...the 10am Sunday mass had room for all, there was no entry line, and the butofumierro “flew”
...the line for my Compostela was less than an hour, a drop in the bucket compared to 41 days of walking

Perhaps it’s not the path you physically walk that makes the journey, but the mindset in which you walk. My last 100km was phenomenal

I guess I missed something in your post. From where did you walk? I am Thinking of walking from Lugo into Santisgo. In Astorga now. Thx Sophia

Congratulations I’m still a day behind you. My Altras are ripping but should make it. You are right about the last 100k. I don’t see nearly the amount of things that people complain about. I even thought the “Jesus didn’t start in Sarria “ graffiti brilliant on many different levels. Buon Camino!

I started in Jaca on the Aragones (850km from Santiago), but for the entire walk I was warned by so many people that my way on the Camino - no reservations, mid-day picnics, etc - wouldn’t work after Sarria due to the crowds, rain, and every other type of gloom and doom.

The point of my post was simple: DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!! It was actual LESS crowded than the Meseta - no joke! As for timing, I just reached Santiago yesterday (yesterday)

I arrived on Wednesday and it was like a conga line coming into Santiago. As I posted on another thread people seemed to be appearing on in the last day or two. The plaza in front of the Cathedral was much more crowded and at best 1.5 hours seemed to be the wait at the pilgrims office. It’s my third Camino Frances so all was to be expected.

Conditions vary... Some pilgrims walk in a lot of rainy weather; others, all sun and clear skies. So, in a way, you did walk a different path than did other pilgrims from Sarria to SdC.

Thank you for your positive feedback and information about the last 100 KM . I
Am a newbie , 66 years old and was getting a little worried about “the commercialism” comments and too many people on the trail. I will be doing as Bill Bennett says in his book “the pussy walk “. The last 100 Km, where my bag is sent on ahead and staying in 2 or 3 star hotels. It may not be what is the real prigrim way but for me I want the contemplative walk, experience the countryside, towns, people and food — so it will be for me “the Way - my way”. I am excited and stating to train now and appreciate all the expert advise. Thank you .
