I wonder if you would mind sharing the information below. An environmental catastrophe has already been approved by the government. It will unearth millions of tons of gold. It will create 500 jobs initially in its construction and then 250 within the mine itself. It will be exhausted within 8 years. It will also destroy a pristine area of farmland and mountain forests, it will heap cyanide and arsenic into a wetland basin, and it will contaminate a beautiful river estuary flowing into the Atlantic. The company approved to exploit this pristine area is Canadian.

It has to be stopped and needs international backing.

There is to be a demonstration in Santiago on Sunday and I'll be there adding my two centimos worth. Sometimes being a published writer does carry a bit of weight! I invite you to join me if you will be there. Send me a PM or look for a feisty blondish woman wielding a sign with a Canadian flag on it at the Alameda at 12:00.

The last is in Spanish but the message is clear enough.

Although this mine itself is about 40 klms from the Camino at Muxia the gold itself stretches in a seam from Malpica to Tuy! Other "exploitaciónes" are planned for the future.
