There are comfortable backpacking hammocks that weigh only a few ounces. Seems like a good alternative if the albergue is full. Do any pilgrims carry hammocks and would there be places to hang them (any trees)?

I think there were two trees on the meseta, but they may have been mirages in the heat waves.

I met a friend on The Way last year that brought one and it was heaven the day I got a chance to share it. However, I think she had some trouble finding trees to string it up in.

Yes, it would be difficult. We had enough trouble finding places to pitch a tent.
