Lone walker from London

New Member
Hi,

my name is Iona and live in London.
After finding a new job I have a couple of weeks spare and decided it is time to walk the walk! :D
Am hoping to start early June and will be walking alone.

Will be flying to Toulouse and still trying to figure out the logistics of how to get to St Jean Pied de Port from there...

Have wanted to do this for approx 9 years so terribly excited that the opportunity has arisen!
Hoping to bump into other pilgrins en route so give me a shout if you are heading out around that time!

Big smiles

Iona

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Welcome Iona,

Crickey 2weeks or 9yrs, Good luck, hope you are happy with your boots/shoes, I guess after 9yrs waits they should be pretty worn in, if not your name (WF) will carry you thru'.
Yes it should warmed up by then too as its been pretty tepid of late, with all kinds of weather, a bit like England today with sun/heat cold/sleat then sun again
Good Luck in your planning, lots of knowledge here to help you on your way

You'll be disappointed! In a positive way. :D
Because you'll meet many other walkers on the trail to Santiago.
Welcome to this Forum with many friends and good advice. Prepare yourself well for your adventure.
Ultreya!

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Hi Iona!

You'll have a great time. I suspect from Toulouse you'll have to get to Bayonne then get the train on to SJPP, but others may have more details.

How far are you planning to walk? Burgos would be a good target for a couple of weeks if you do average distances and pace. However, don't miss your flight home like I did recently and end up walking to Santiago instead!...or maybe you should. :D

Buen Camino!

London BB or Hostel Accommodation

Hi All,
I am leaving this Sunday from Phoenix, Arizona, USA to London and catching the Ryan Air from Stansted on Friday to Biarritz. I'll be in London for 4 days. Can anyone suggest a good hostel or BB in London and easy access to Stansted Airport?
Thanks & Blessing to you all.

Ideal pocket guides for during and after your Camino. Each weighs just 40g (1.4 oz).

Hi Zee!

If you're planning on staying in central London the area around Victoria is worth considering. As Ian says there is a bus from Victoria coach station, and it's also fairly easy to get there by train (get the Underground from under Victoria railway station to Tottenham Hale and pick up the train there). The coach and rail stations are about 10 mins walk from each other.

There are lots of private hotels near Victoria (Belgrave Road, for example) of varying price and quality. However hotels in London are never cheap, so check out Ian's link to Hostelworld first.

If you want to stay near Stansted the night before your flight the Travelodge hotel at Bishops Stortford is fine and relatively good value. You can book online. It's 10 mins or so in the taxi from Stansted, and might be more relaxing to prepare for the adventure ahead!

Buen Camino!
