Luggage transport on the Via de la Plata

Hello

Next April I am going to cycle the VDP from Cadiz (where I live) to Santiago. Last time I did it I vowed I would never carry luggage on a bike again and so have been searching for infomation on shipping a bag from stage to stage. So far I have drawn a total blank. Correos don't do it neither do any of the other services mentioned on any of the camino related websites I have looked at. On the Camino Frances yes but not the VDP. Does anybody have any ideas or information they would like to share.

Thanks in advance Peter

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Correos run luggage transport from Ourense to Santiago. According to Gerald Kelly's FAQ page there is also a private service from Granja de Moruela onwards. But there is no regular service for the rest of the VdlP. Probably because the numbers walking or cycling are quite small and it would not be financially viable. If you do intend to cycle the route then be prepared to carry your own gear or take the very expensive and complicated option of booking taxis privately to move your gear daily.

We have walked the Via de la Plata and sent our bag through Correos post office Seville to Salamanca, we paid for it to be kept in Poste Restaunte until a certain date, then picked it up within that time. We had some rest days and again sent it on from Salamanca to Astorga. You could always send it shorter distances. We only carried a small backpack with bare essentials until we retreived our bag. We met one guy who was sending his bag on every day by taxi.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Hi Peter, small world, I live in Conil and have fallen in love with riding the Caminos. Can't really help with your query, if Correos doesn't work then maybe it would have to be daily taxis or a supported tour? Another option might be to take the absolute minimum then buy en route if the weather turns wet or cold.
Alternatively post stuff ahead that you might need, I have used Correos to post stuff home I don't need. Buen Camino. Richard

What was the problem that caused you to make this decision? Unbalanced or too heavy?
