Even without being Jewish, I don't care for him and I don't care about this news. For us Pilgrims who are Jewish, who cares??????
This is so brilliant. So did I! I didn't get in the paper though, I have no idea why.
(Nearly did in Puenta La Reina once one December though.....)
Ps, who is this Mel Gibson, is she pretty?
Davey
I'm not Jewish , I don't care what so ever. For us Pilgrims who are Jewish, who cares??????
"[He] didn´t try the famous pulpo (salad and lamb chops)." -- Is that a joke, or do you mean he had salad and lamb chops rather than pulpo?
Precisely. Particularly since he is a known anti-Semite.For us Pilgrims who are Jewish, who cares??????
Maybe you can find little forgiveness seeing you are on a pilgrimage. For us Pilgrims who are Jewish, who cares??????
It's a relief to be able forgive when someone recognizes the wrong that they did and asks for forgiveness.Maybe you can find little forgiveness seeing you are on a pilgrimage.
Do you think anyone is truly star struck with Mel Gibson??It's a relief to be able forgive when someone recognizes the wrong that they did and asks for forgiveness.
But when an influential person makes lame excuses for past offenses and continues to peddle hateful tropes, it's appropriate to prick the bubble of star-struck celebrity news.
You must be joking. What do you think my grandfather would say to you after he was orphaned at 11 years old because his family was murdered in a Pogrom? This is a man who for years has spewed hate. He was raised by a father who said this in a New York Times interview:Maybe you can find little forgiveness seeing you are on a pilgrimage.
He's a controversial figure but we don't hear or read that much about him in our media. The incident in 2006 when he was arrested for drunk driving and his vile rant was widely published was the first time ever that I had heard about it.I am sorry having started this thread. It was because A Fonsagrada is an important point on the Primitivo and didn't know, like most Spaniards , anything about Mel Gibson's ideas.
Apparently so, otherwise there wouldn’t have been the news story about this jerk.Do you think anyone is truly star struck with Mel Gibson??
Controversial? No controversy about him at all unless one believes his anti-Semitic rants. He's a controversial figure but we don't hear or read that much about him in our media. The incident in 2006 when he was arrested for drunk driving and his vile rant was widely published was the first time ever that I had heard about it.
Amen.I have a feeling that this thread is hurtling towards closure ...
It's one thing to not care about this luvvie celebrity news and another to let it pass without pointing out the "controversies" surrounding Mel Gibson. The "ideas" about Jewish people are the big deal here. But let's also spare a moment to remember the way he treated his former partner. She recorded some of the threats that he made toward her on the telephone. You can find them online if you want.I'm a bit amused that people share the fact that they are not interested in Mel Gibson at all
Spot on. He’s a real peach. It's one thing to not care about this luvvie celebrity news and another to let it pass without pointing out the "controversies" surrounding Mel Gibson. I was aware of them. I guess I felt a bit sorry for those who posted newspaper articles from Galicia in good faith. I'm boycotting movies by Polanski, by Allen, sadly enough probably also by Spacey in future and I was never going to watch The Passion of the Christ anyway. Is that enough credentials? You can find them online if you want.
Get them stamped twice a day just in case.Is that enough credentials?
The media, in particular the media in the country where one lives or the media who publish in the language that one uses, inform us and inevitably shape our opinion. It is not a one way process. The media both shape and reflect public opinion and public interest in many subtle ways.I don't allow the media and entertainment industry force me to like or dislike somebody. They have zero control over my life.
I'm not familiar enough with the mainly regional newspapers of Galicia and Asturias etc or the national press to make a judgement. As I like to know what I'm talking about I had a look at all these quotes. Really foul language and despicable but apparently made in private and then pulled into the glaring light of publicity. Of course, one must be as spotless in private life as in in public life. All this proves is that the Spanish papers that reported his doings are mindless groupies and/or star struck, which is equally inane.
More camino related than well over 10% of current forum messages. Is this thread camino related in any way?
He didn't perchance run into my great-great-great grandfather just outside Brussels a few short years later , did he?Is this thread camino related in any way?
I mean, one of my relatives went to Salamanca once. He was with this guy called Wellington. Not sure what he ate, where he ate or what churches he visited. I think he met some Frenchmen at some point, not sure. His visit did get in the papers though I suppose....

No, you must wear a hairshirt on your next camino...I was aware of them. I guess I felt a bit sorry for those who posted newspaper articles from Galicia in good faith. You need to stop letting movies affect you so much. They're just for entertainment. What about that dross The Patriot...typical American based garbage. .much like Braveheart..I don't see any one complaining about those fictions. It's not history it's american fantasy. However apocalyto i thought was excellent.
Yeah....so what? Steve McQueen and William Holden were pretty cool dudes in those movies. You have to admit that scene where Steve is trying to get away on the motorcycle was good.Yes but some purport to be factual. I enjoyed "Ray" starring Jamie Foxx but was amazed when they made up the story that he was banned from playing in Georgia and there was even a final scene where it was subsequently lifted. Pure fantasy, never happened. Why?
The Great Escape..no Americans were involved but were added to pander to American audiences.Bridge on the River Kwaii..American was added to make it more poo palatable to Americane audiences. Yes it does matter because cinema is a way the many people get their "facts"

And I, because of the amazing leaps conversations can take. Mel Gibson to sedevacantists: who would have thought that was possible? Thanks @Kathar1na . As a result of reading this, I've learned something today - even though my opinion about M.G. and his movies (basically, I couldn't care less) has become even more deeply entrenched.I also now know what a sedevacantist is. This is why I can't tear myself away from the forum. It's not always because of what is written on the forum but what I discover when I'm looking for background information and trying to suss out to what extent the stuff I read here is accurate.
