Time of past OR future Camino
walking May 9
Hope that's a clear description. I was wondering if these pieces are before or after Pamplona? I am starting my Camino in Pamplona, but I did not want to miss seeing these. Thanks

The Spanish are wild about outdoor public sculpture, you will see them everywhere. those you refer to are on Alto del Perdon and in my opinion very moving. There is something of a controversy here, this was once a bit of totally virgin mountain as far as the eye can see. The Spanish Electricity people put up hundreds of windmills also as far as the eye can see-purists and even some environmentalists were enraged and the statuary was placed in an attempt to soothe ruffled feathers. Now the arguments have cooled and we have this marvelous group.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
I loved that sculpture group (placed there in 1994)-- the walk in and walk out is a bit challenging, but the views are worth it! If you stepped behind the sculptures and look to the right you will see the ruins of a medieval pilgrims hospital, so don't miss that-- many people do.

How nice to see these figures without grafitti. In May last year when we were there they were covered in spray paint. Why would someone do such a thing? The mind boggles...

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Alto del Perdon.jpg The installation is impossible to miss!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I was sure I would see a picture of some heavy rockers when I first saw the title of the thread! :D

Actually, it brings back fond memories: In 2009, I started out from Pamplona. The very first day, I passed Cizur Menor, walked up to Alto del Perdon and beyond, found new friends and shared lunch from our backpacks, and suddenly unterstood that this Camino thing was not only doable, but would be a blessing for me: So much in just my first day! From then on, my confidence was set in stone.

Thank you for creating the thread!

I had no idea!! I will definitely look for that when I’m there in May..Just 3 more months. Don’t want the time to pass too quickly. I’m enjoying the anticipation and planning!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Sorry all but my first thought was not about music or Alto del Perdon, it was about the pilgrims who are wearing tinfoil hats:rolleyes::rolleyes:.

"How nice to see these figures without grafitti."

I have seen the photos with the grafitti, I am very tempted to bring a can of rust colored spay paint in April to paint over the grafitti !

I swear to this day that it was at the point, or after that day where my groove started :)
Until that day my backpack was still a burden...as of the next day it was a part of me...

Funny thing happened to me in front of that sculpture...a nice pilgrim approached me and told me I was wearing my backpack all wrong...
He was a pullin' and a pokin' everywhere...after I let him TOTALLY alter my shell I asked, "WOW how do you know so much about backpacks?"...and he told me the night before his flight someone "told" him how to adjust a backpack.

My back never hurt so much after...
sigh...but the next day with my own adjustments I was good to go :)

Lesson of the story...don't let folks convince you they are an expert over your gut feelings...

Metal people seem to be attracted to mountains. It was a couple of metal people who drove me off the Camino Frances in 2010 -- walking the mountain from Rabanal over Foncebadon to El Acebo, a pierced and tattooed young pilgrim couple "shared" with us all a boom-box blasting speed-metal music. There was no outrunning or out-waiting it, you could hear it for miles.
That is when I opted for the Camino Invierno route.
I owe that wonderful discovery to those metal-blasting knuckleheads.
