Mixing paths on one trip-ideas/opinions?

I just thought about this- haven't taken the time to think it through...anyone mix paths?

I'm thinking about a St. Jean start, Longrono (I think) to Bilbao to pick up the Norte route, then the Primativo to the last bit of Frances into Santiago. This would be in Sept and a week or so in Oct but ending date is flexible.

Any thoughts/advice?

Different equipment needed for one path that I might not necessarily need on another? [Hiking poles come to mind. I don't plan to use them on my original plan on the Frances].

It sounds exciting...hopfully not a bad idea

Hola @YoCo I can't see that there is a problem with "mixing" caminos. All the Pilgrim Office is going to really look at is "did you walk the last 100 km (eg around Sarria). That said - I think your pilgrim credential does state which Camino you are on (or at least starting on). But hey as we always say - its your camino, go walk where you are happiest! I agree with Keith - this one might need watching! So a very special Buen Camino

Regarding the CF, I had it figured out...with lots of extra days for whatever I didn't figure!

I haven't booked my return flight...so glad for that. Who knows what that will be!

I used poles on both my Camino Franceses. Why wouldn't you?

I don't like the idea of the constant click/thud/plunk etc noise of the poles for 30+ days.

Definitely agree about the click of metal tips but I really didn't find rubber ends at all disturbing.

Having accidentally walked a part of it last year, I am, amongst other things considering starting on the CF before heading along the beautiful San Salvador to Oviedo and then joining the Norte to head west.

Certainly not a problem to mix and match routes as far as the Pilgrim Office and the Compostela is concerned. Or to make up your own route altogether. I walked the Camino Frances for the third time in 2016 and hated what had become of Sarria since my last journey. A number of people have suggested walking the Frances to Ponferrada then finishing the journey by walking the Invierno instead and arriving in Santiago from the south. That is an interesting option.

Hello @Yoyo, 'mixing' paths is doable and most pilgrims use the same gear for all of the main Camino routes. I guess it depends on the purpose of your Camino. There's something special about walking continuously on the same path, losing track of time and not thinking about transportation etc.

I started the Via de Plata Oct 2017, walked to Caceres but had bad blisters and the extreme heat and long days ahead made them worse. Caught a bus to Astorga and walked to Sarria as I could walk short distances and care for my feet. I then caught a train and bus to Porto and walked the central route. As I still had 6 days left before my flight back to Australia, once I got to Santiago I caught a bus to Ferrol and walked the Ingles. I didn't bother getting any compostelas as I had one when I had previously walked the Frances. With the Rome2Rio app transport was easy, and I downloaded apps for the Portuguese and the Ingles as I went along. Spur of the moment decisions but all of it was amazing and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

... I'm torn... I just found a pair of collapsible poles for $40. Not sure if it's a good brand, CAMP from Italy but ill check it out.

Levante to Zamora, Via de la Plata from Zamora via Bragança in Portugal to Verín, then rest of the way in the Sanabrés. A lot of different ecosystems, cultures, even two languages and one dialect.

There are other threads on this topic I think. Without backtracking or leaving the path I think the most I can come up is 4: Augusta from Cadiz to Sevilla, Plata from Sevilla to Salamanca, Torres from Salamanca to Braga, Portugués from then on.

Oh for the time to do them all...

4. Plata from Sevilla to Salamanca
5. Torres from Salamanca to Peso da Regua
6. Portugués del Interior Peso da Regua to Verin
7. Sanabres “alternatif” from Verin to A Gudiña.
8. Sanabres proper to Ourense and on to Santiago
