Hi, my name is Marie. I only heard about the walk last year. But for some unknown reason I keep getting drawn back to researching the walk. I am planning to complete the whole walk next year.
Still can't decide to go it alone or to go on a guided tour. ...
Any advice would be appreciated.
Kind Regards
Marie

Hello Marie! I'm planning my first Camino for next May. It seems that I am going to be setting off alone, but there are several people on this site who are walking at the same time. I hope to meet most if not all of them at one point or another!

I did meet a mother & daughter who walked the Camino as part of a group tour. They really enjoyed it. I've done group tours before & they were okay. I just prefer being on my own schedule, doing my own thing.

I think it will all come down to which you are more comfortable doing. The people here have lots of wonderful advice to give, so don't be afraid to ask questions!

Buen Camino!

Hi Marie,

I planing to walk the Camino, since I want to have some time for myself, to think about a lot of things. For me it's not an option to the the camino within a group. I hope to met other pilgrims with whom I can spend time with or even walk a part of the camino together. I think, walking in a guided group will shield you to much from the other pilgrims. But that's just my opinion, the only thing that counts is YOUR opinion.

Walking part of the route with a tour and walking as a pilgrim are 2 very different things. In one you are a tourist (nothing wrong with that really!) and in the other you are an integral part of the Camino and of its history.

As a tourist you will meet one or two people of your group (probably all coming from the same region as you); as a pilgrim you will meet the world, you will share sleeping and eating accomodations with people of many origins, different languages and customs.

If you have the desire to be alone but also to meet other people, then go alone.

walking alone

Also another consideration would be IF you took a tour, is there time built in IF you were to fall ill, or get blisters etc. If you are alone, you would be the boss, and can stay in one place longer if necessary.
I also agree that walking alone it enables a person to meet the world.!!!!
