Hi All, I am looking for help with our walk.

There are four of us starting in Triacastela on 5th October. My mother is now thinking of coming along with us. She would not be able for the walk so I have a question for you.

Would she be able to get a taxi easy enough between the different towns that we are going to walk too?

Would anyone have any idea how much it would cost or how I would check this out for her?

Our plan is as follows

Triacastela to Sarria (staying in Sarria the night before and the night we walk there- will get the bus to Triacastela)

Sarria - Portomarin

Portomarin - Palas de Rei

Palas de Rei - Melide

Melide - Arzua

Arzua - O Pedrouzo

O Pedrouzo - Santiago de Compestala

There are taxis in all those places, and buses from Palas de Rei onward. A taxi is typically 1E per kilometer, and a bus is a bit over 1E per segment.

Falcon, as usual is spot on with the answer you got about costs.

I just wanted to comment upon your plan as a reminder for you.

If your Mother does elect to use a taxi between stages that probably means she won't get the required stamps to qualify for a Compostela. Also, by using a taxi your mother will most likely need to use private accommodation.

Your stages are very doable for most people so looks like you will all enjoy your Camino.

My mom and I did it years ago it worked out great. And, that was in 2001, before a cellphone in every pocket. You will be fine as will she. Aforementioned posts spot on.

Thank you very much John Mc. We have accommodation booked at all the towns where we are walking to. A mix of hotels, Pensions and Apartments. Is that what you mean by using Private Accomodation? I just want to make sure we are okay with doing this as it is our first time. She will be okay with not getting stamps to qualify for a Compostela.

We will have the pleasure of doing the walking for that...ha ha.

I would say "yes." Xunta and parochial albergues generally require a credential, though nothing in that credential prevents using transportation. Some self-administered criteria may involve arriving by foot, bicycle, horse, or wheelchair, but those modes are for qualifying for the compostela, not using an albergue.

I think it's wonderful that you are bringing your mom along, and I wish that I could do that! My mom is on "the other side" already, but more than that--she was never interested in hiking.

I just wanted to suggest that she get herself a pretty journal, and collect the Sello stamps and do some writing along the way! Her journal and memories of the places along the way would surely be delightful for you to share together.
