Not so hot...

Why is everyone saying it's going to be so hot in July?
Other than today that is reaching a maximum of 28C (really cold compared to where I live in Thailand), the rest of this week is ranging from 11C to a maximum of 22C! Really not hot at all... while everyone else is worried about walking in the heat, I'm now seriously concerned about being cold! Just finished packing, as leaving on Tuesday for Camino. Hohum... what to do! I have a lightweight fleece and a lightweight windbreaker - can wear the 2 together. Walking in 3/4 runner's leggings, tech fibre.

It will be blistering hot walking in the sun on the meseta. I live in Singapore but I still wilted in the blazing sun in Spain in September. That said, it will be cold, particularly in the dark hours and mountains. I walked in shorts every day and was fine but I needed a fleece most nights.

Hello... I live in SW France and we're having a spell of very odd weather for this time of year... much cooler and much wetter. Perhaps this is the same with Northern Spain? I'm not compaining as this weather is better for my garden!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Concur with that. On CF at the moment (in Carrion) and have used all gear including blankets over lightweight sleeping bag one or two nights.

On the CF now. In Sarria. The first couple weeks - early June on, were hot. Shorts and singlets (I'm Australian so used to high temps) but have been in and out of long pants and jumpers since about Burgos. Hoping for some sun to brig us home to Santiago :) my tip - be prepared for anything and don't rely too much in the forecast. The Camino appears to do what it wants.... Buen Camino!!

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
For anyone it is hard to predict on beforehand exactly what is the right amount of gear. To me fleece and windbreaker together is the ideal pair of really cold moments and I can hardly imagine that anyone needs much more in July.
There are always two options:
- Take the things you might need, which has a risk that you carry things all the way without needing it (I think it happened and happens to nearly all of us:rolleyes:)
- Take the minimum. If you find out that you really need some more clothes you can something extra on the way. There are a lot if cheap Asian shops on the way.

Now i am getting worried, i will be biking the camino frances in August. I have heard some say it is the hottest time of the year, in this case no fleece needed. Maybe it is also very warm in the evenings....

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I walked the Camino in July and it was very cold. The thing is, you're frequently up at 3,000 feet (900+ meters) and it's chilly up there. When I crossed the meseta it was windy and chilly. Not hot. You just never know what you'll encounter.

Where are you Urban Trekker? When I train here in perth during the summer before along trek I walk early morn on the beach knee high in the water. Hard walking but keeps you cool.

I'm jealous. Here in Northern Nevada we have plenty of sand, :) we just don't have water. We are were the Sierras end and the desert starts. High elevation, high UVs, hotter than it really is. I try to get a early start but the rack monster won't let go. ;) By the way isn't it fall Down Under?
