October Camino - What gear in my pack I used and what not

RENSHAW

Official Camino Vino taster
Time of past OR future Camino
2003 CF Ronces to Santiago
Hospi San Anton 2016.
The one big luxury that I took was a camping 'GAZ' stove - I used it almost evey day for coffee , tea , soup , boiled eggs and cooking. What a pleasure to stop off anywhere and have a steaming hot cup of coffee or a breakfast in a town where the Bar was closed.
Tin mug and tin Billy can - used every day - and so light.
I did take some extra clothes - one of my jackets could have been left at home but almost all that I took , I wore , but for a golf peak hat that never saw the light of day...my beanie however was in use every day , an amazing temperature regulator.
I used my Leatherman once but a tea spoon and a regular tablespoon was used every day.
My LED headlamp - used Every day.
My compact digital camera - every day.

My phone - even used it for some music and alarm feature..BUTTTT ................. WIFI was everywhere - I need to get a WIFI phone.

A heavy duty poncho was used twice - I should have taken a cheap , light job that could have been disposed of if it had incured damage.
Cycling shorts came in handy - stopped chaffing and I could wear them and put everything else into the wash.
Waterproof pants - wore almost every day - the extra layer helped in the cold mornings.
Large tube of suncream - big mistake - only used a small dab each day for my face , neck and hands but the stuff is so expensive that I was loath to ditch it.
Pair of light training shoes - bulky , but used evey day.
Sun glasses - every day the sun shone and there were many sunny days.

When it did get REALLY COLD , I could have done with a scarf - I will take one next time.

I supose a lot had to do with the time of year and weather but I have walked in Spring as well and used the same gear - August would require completly different gear - perhaps there is a pilgrim who can write up a similar list for the hight of Summer??
Hope this is of use to you guys that are still fantasising or planning.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Guy, you might remember from the SA Army days that the boys doing service in places like Bloemfontein - or even Mooi River - wore pantyhose under their trousers when on guard duty.

You could do the same thing with tights, which would be even warmer.

You're right , the English and Scotts were wearing them in the Boer War!!
