I'm a 67-year-old English woman with no experience of travelling alone, so when I wanted to walk the Camino I looked for people to travel with. Last October I walked the first 180 miles, from St. Jean Pied de Port to Burgos, with a small group from Peterborough Pilgrims, staying in albergues along the way. By the time I finished I had bad blisters, sciatica and a pulled ankle tendon, although I had done some preparation. I couldn't have gone further at that point. I wanted to continue walking this year but, despite encouragement and helpful advice from members of this forum, I am too much of a wimp to fly out to Spain on my own (the flight is fine, it's the buses and trains I'm nervous of). Anyway, I have booked with hf holidays to walk from Sarria to Santiago in September, which will give me the compostela, company, and more luxurious accommodation (though I'll miss the albergues!). I've also found that Ramblers walk from Leon to Santiago, though leaving out the less scenic parts so this doesn't qualify for a compostela. To cap it all, I have booked with Saga in October to cover the whole Camino by coach with nmy husband, who has arthritis in his spine so sadly can't walk with me. I will be able to show him where I walked, and also enjoy the sight-seeing I was too knackered to fully appreciate when doing it on foot! I haven't yet found a way to walk the Meseta (Burgos to Leon) but I reckon I will have had the best of all worlds by the time next Christmas comes!!
