Pilgrim causes brush fire by burning his boots!

A 37-year-old Belgian, D.L.J.S., was detained by the Guardia Civil at Fisterra yesterday, after causing a minor brush fire.

Following the custom of getting rid of his clothing at the end of his journey, he decided to burn it. Things got out of hand however when he decided to burn his Goretex-lined boots as well. These proved highly flammable, and he was unable to control the blaze.

The decidedly tongue-in-cheek official report speculates that the boots, like the seven-league ones, took on a life of their own "in this land of witches".

A gift to all newspaper editors looking for copy.

I am not sure, but I think it means that he had to pay something.... if it means just a fine or the cost of the whole "operation" I'm not sure. Probably just a fine.

GoreTex is dangerous

I feel reminded of Richard Reid, the british 'Shoe Bomber', who had tried to set fire to (the SemTex in) his shoes, and had failed.

Seems like anyone wearing GoreTex shoes boarding a plane needs to be looked at very closely. I suppose they better ban GoreTex altogether from planes. :?

Planning to start the Camino Frances from St Jean on April 3rd. Any thoughts/advice on the snow conditions on the Route Napoleon at the present time?
Sadly enough Spain already experiences the first major forest fire of 2023. Be careful and vigilant everyone when on the road...
