Please pass on my congratulations to all. Well done!Hola
Greetings from the exhausted staff of the Pilgrims' Office where today we issued a staggering 2709 Compostelas. This number will rise slightly as more data is entered.
This sets new record and is a huge achievement. Thanks to pilgrims for being patient and to the staff and volunteers for remaining cheerful and working so hard.
Until tomorrow!
John
.......and having just seen the queue at the Pilgrim Office I wouldn't be surprised to hear that record tumbles today !!!Wow !!! We arrived were there at 8:30 and the queue was already growing so we didn't go anywhere else we just joined the queue. Staff were fabulous. It does explain the enormous pressure on beds this week tho ..... Had no idea I'd be contributing to a record breaking day !!!

wow thanks for the effort in getting those statsStarters in SJPP, this year from January to end of July, were 15'087 (SJPP-Roncesvalles-Pamplona: 21'706)
Last year, during the same period, there were 13'929; and in 2012 11'081 (SJPP-Roncesvalles-Pamplona during 2013: 20'640; during 2012 17'799)
Pilgrims who had started from SJPP between January to December in 2013 were 25'557 (+ 15%); in 2012 22'214
During August last year (2013) arrivals in Santiago who had started in SJPP were considerably less than in any other month from May to October.
Similarly in August 2012, there were also less arrivals who had started in SJPP than during the months of June and October. Note however that in both August 2012 and August 2013 there were remarkably more starters from Roncesvalles instead.
We'll see by the end of August how many pilgrims had started from SJPP (and Roncesvalles and Pamplona)
So far this month the pilgrims' office in Santiago is registering record daily arrivals.
This scenario happened already during 2010, when 272'000 pilgrims registered at the Pilgrims' Office in Santiago. Of these, nearly 70% had walked the Camino Francés when just over 1/3rd of them declared to have started in Sarria.[...]Having established that at least the Camino Frances is becoming more popular than ever, one does wonder what the contingency plans are for handling 275-300,000 or more pilgrims per year, both at Santiago de Compostela and along the way getting there? It can happen.
Well "N", everybody who has a business interest along The Way is quite happy on such development. And best of all, there will be no 13th Century bandits attacking pilgrims along certain infamous stretches of those days.[...] If things carry on this way, the numbers might surpass the 13th Century levels of half a million Pilgrims a year !!!
