Past Camino Sarria to Santiago 12 April 2016
Planning the next one !
Hoping for advice from those in the know please , I am walking from Sarria to Santiago in April 2016 and while I plan on not booking accommodation for all my camino I was thinking of prebooking in Sarria for the night I arrive to start my walk. Is this a good idea and if so where would be a good place to stay close to the Camino path or centre of town maybe ? Its my first time ever walking alone or even travelling to another country alone so am fairly nervous and trying to figure it all out. Thanks in advance for any tips

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Hi Maryindigo.
There are plenty albergues in Sarría.
Buen Camino

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I think it is always a good idea to book your bed for the first night. That first day when you leave home and set out can be full of anxieties and there is no point in adding worry about getting a bed. Once you arrive the worries slip away like taking off your rucksack.

Buen Camino,
Lydia

Plenty of albergues in Sarria and in April you will not have problems. They have hotels also.

I also loved it! You can book either a dorm bunk or a simple private room. Dinner also is available. All is spotless with crisp clean linens on all the beds/ bunks.
Buen camino!
Thanks mspath
That sounds all exactly like the right place for me

For our first night on our Camino from Sarria to Santiago, we did book our lodging in Sarria at the Alb. Monasterio (10€ each). It was nice not to have to think about “where am I going to stay tonight?”.

The Alb. Monasterio is right on the Camino and just down the way from Km marker 111. Nothing fancy here, kitchen with pots and utensils, vending machines with food items, no breakfast, lights off at 22:00 and on at 07:00. They provide you with covers for your mattress and pillow and there were blankets available for you to use. I liked the fact that they had FREE lockers for you to lock away your packs while you went out seeing the town.

We did our Camino in May of 2015 and had no problems finding lodging on the Camino.

Buen Camino

Great idea to book a place to stay in your first night. I walked from Sarria to Santiago in September 2013 and I had a hotel for the first night. You want to make sure to be well rested to start the best , unforgettable journey of you life.
Buen Camino!

Hi again Guys
Boththe Albergue O durinento and Monaster de La Magdelena both came up with no vacancies for the dates I tried over a few datesin April , does anyone know if this is likely to be already booked out fornext April or is it too soon for them to take a booking. Thanks :)

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Mary,
There are three things that I would advise first time pilgrims to bring with them.
1. A nice pilgrim attitude of gratitude for being able to do the Camino and for all the help and services you get from other pilgrims and especially from the Spanish people.
2.A nicely trained body.
3 A little knowledge of Spanish which will enrich your experience so very much.

You will notice that none of these add even one gram to the weight of your rucksack.
Buen Camino.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Chances are you are trying to book too early. Easter is late March in 2016, so that shouldn't be a factor. Bookings will be heavy again close to May 1st as many people take advantage of that holiday date to get started.

Thank you for your lovely thoughts. Have been hoping and planning to do this for several years so am heading of with huge gratitude for this experience and being able to meet new people and have new experiences along the way. I have been walking and hiking for a few years so hopefully the body wont let me dwn lol and have also been learning the very basics in Spanish in case of emergency. not sure my Spanish will be understandable but am going to give it a shot !
Thanks again Mary

I am doing Sarria - Santiago next week. I pre-booked DP Cristal for my night in Sarria.
When I am done, I will be posting a trip report.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
