Every year the city of Lugo has a four day festival that is a real blow-out. It's called Arde Lucas, http://www.ardelucus.com/ and the whole town goes wild. Wikipedia describes it well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arde_Lucus I have been there, but was astonished to see that crowd estimates are as high as 450,000 visitors!
There are many pageants, performances, re-enactments, but a huge part of the party is centered on consuming alcohol. Seems that every adult male in Lugo dresses up either as a Roman or a pre-Roman hill dweller, and the party is never-ending. Sleeping in the albergue during one of those nights can be a real challenge, the noise is continuous and defeaning.
So, whether you want to schedule your Primitivo so that you can partake of the festivities, or whether you want to schedule it to avoid them, the dates this year are June 30, July 1 and 2. No problem getting into the albergue on those dates because the albergue only takes pilgrims and only for one night, but finding private lodging will be challenging and expensive. Buen camino, Laurie
