We start our first Camino in one week. We would love to have a private room booked in Roncesvalles. Any suggestions?
The rest of the Camino will be as we go.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I noticed it is your 2nd Camino, I think Roncevalles would make a good place to start especially if flying into Madrid. Also many Spanish start from there. Is that why you chose it?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I have stayed at La Posada. Inexpensive and adequate (if a bit gloomy.) You eat communally with lots of peregrinos from the monastery, which is a good way to meet people, but the cuisine is basic and it's Hobson's choice. Bed was comfortable, bathroom ok (shower over bath.)

Try the three hotels there.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

It is our first Camino, we are actually starting in St Jean.

The church alburgue is remodeled & very well done, but you have a reservation elsewhere, if you stop after resting it is a neat place to wander around a bit. Are you walking over the same day from SJPDP? You may be too tired to explore.

It may be an option to stay in Orisson after first walk up the mountain and then rather than stay in Roncesvalles, walk to the next town, Burgete, which is about 3.0 km further on. The second day would be 21.0 km Orisson to Burgete.

From Orisson, it is 8 km to the Iron Cross at the Road, (where the path leaves the road). From here, it is 10 km across the mountains, with easy ups and downs to Ciz, then the last 3 - 4 km downhill to Roncesvalles (TAKE THE PATH TO THE RIGHT), and the final 3 km to Burgete.Total to here is 21.0 km.

Finally, Espinal is another 3.5 km beyond Burgete but bot offer hostels and hotels. Total to this point from Orisson would be 24.5 km. Next day, Pamplona would be withion reach or a stop beyond.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
