Whilst I am sure that the private albergue here recommended is great and worthwhile staying, if you want to get a taste how the Camino and its albergues used to be in ye old times stay at the monastery albergue. Buen Camino, SY

PS When in Samos, don't miss the Cypress chapel ...

I will definitely stay at the Monasterio.
Thanks.

In Samos a pleasant restaurant/hotel with a great menu de dia is A Veiga at the western side of the village. I have always eaten there but have never stayed there. The monastery which will be frigid even in autumn is at the eastern side of the village as you enter on the camino.

One reason to spend the night in the Samos monastery is to attend evening vespers. Pilgrims are escorted by a monk through the dark monastery to the chapel service. Painted life size images of monks line the corridor walls. In the dim light the mix of living
and painted Benedictines all wearing black robes is usually most surreal!

I am not sure who now does the visit to the Capilla de Cypresses but the hospitalero will know! Really a gem of very early (if I remember right 5th/6th century) church architecture. BC SY

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Actually the place is always chilly - but in summer you appreciate it more  Buen Camino SY

You don't need to stay at the monastery to view evening vespers.

I also stayed at Casa Lucerio in Samos last week and will enthusiastically second Emily's recommendation.

Shared dorms aren't for everyone, and if that's you, Ashley's place is a perfect choice. She has four comfortable and spotlessly clean private rooms and offers a delightful welcome reception each evening at 1800 hours.

Ashley is a pilgrim who is living her dream, which has in part been made possible by walking the Camino. Be sure to ask her to tell you her story - another example of the Camino changing and empowering one's life!

Back to the monastery dorm...

Unfortunately so many Pilgrims do not take any of the detours off the CF. It's almost as if the goal is to reach Santiago in the shortest and quickest time possible, I know! people have time restrains but the Camino is more than just about walking to St James tomb. Samos is a jewel in the crown and should never be missed. It is only 3.5km longer.

I agree. The detour to Samos included some of my favourite walking on the Frances and the village of Samos is delightful. I loved the tour of the monastery also.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
