I have invited a few friends round for supper to celebrate St James' Day. Most of them find my tendency to spend part of each autumn backpacking across Spain somewhat bewildering. When they arrive in an hour or so, I plan to give them a "camino themed" meal, with food and drink from various places I've passed on my treks to the tomb.
We'll start with some jamón ibérico, from Guijelo, near the Vía de la Plata
Next, some scallops in a sauce mornay.
Then some pulpo. I stew mine slowly in olive oil with garlic and a bit of chili, then cut and clean, and add some mussels and a few fennel tops.
Next, I've managed to find some Torta del Casar cheese, from Casar de Cáceres (VdlP) and some queso manchego from the Levante.
Finally, of course, a torta de Santiago.
We'll drink a rich black red Campo de Borja from the Camino Castellano-Aragonés, and a lovely fruity verdejo from Rueda on the Camino del Sureste. Probably ought to have had either a caldo gallego or some sopa de ajo as well, but enough's enough.
