Soliciting input re: sleeping bag....

I plan to walk May 28-July 6 and am wondering if I can leave my sleeping bag at home and in place bring two silk sleep sacks - one is mummy style and the other rectangular. It would sure save on space/weight if I can do without it! The silk can be pretty warm, combined with a fleece and capris, if needed. I would appreciate input regarding this as I don't know the weather. -Monica :-D :arrow:

how did you, do you stop the blanket hitting the floor in the night, I gave up in the end! :roll:

Am in the middle of my camino and I only brought along a sleeping bag liner. It's not pure silk; I think it's nylon silk blend. It's working fine for me so far. On some cool nights you can ask for blankets. I also brought along some long John's which I sometimes use instead of blankets.

I had the same dilemma as you but in the end I figured the liner and long Johns will pack smaller and lighter than a sleeping bag.

Yikes! I thought I had this topic settled.
I have packed a silk liner (4 oz) AND a sleeping bag (1.3 lbs).
I will be in SJPdP on June 4th and will walk to Santiago de Compestella.
Is anyone happy to have travelled with both a liner and a bag?

Does this same advice hold true for late September through late October? I thought I read somewhere on the forum that snow has been reported in October *yikes* I'm one of those peeps that likes to "burrow" in at night. :roll:

I would be more cautious about not taking a sleeping bag then. If you only took a liner at these times, you might not be comfortable in some of the less well heated albergues, and would need to find somewhere else. Three that come to mind were the municipal albergue at Zubiri, the parochial albergue at Granon and a private albergue at Espinosa. All wonderful places to stay, but when I walked in Apr 2010, these wouldn't have been options for me without a sleeping bag.

I have walked from the middle of Sept to the end of October on the Camino Frances twice. Both times I took a sleeping bag - lightweight goose down 600gms (just under 1 1/2 lbs). I did not need it in September, but I most certainly needed it both times during October. There was snow at O'Cebreiro, so the central heating was on, but at many other albergues there was no heating and not enough blankets to go around. May and June are of course much warmer, so it all depends when you go.

I start my Camino on 31 of June and I`m still not sure If it`s better to take sleeping bag (light one) or silk liner.
