Something else to do?

Can you help me? I need something to do!:(
I have (with some trepidation) downsized from my dear friend the Osprey Talon 44 to the Osprey Stratus 33 after finally (I think) getting down to the "real" as opposed to "perceived" essentials. Time will tell no doubt. But like some others have posted it is in a permanent ready state, packed and ready to pick up and go. I will take out, wash and repack the clothes before I go, but the downside of everything being there is I have no excuse to take out of the wardrobe, unpack, check, add/subtract, repack, reweigh. I have nothing to play with! I have no excuse to go to the outfitters!
My flight and first night's bed are booked, my insurance in place, my guides sorted. All I can do is wait (65 days, but who is counting)! I'm in pre-camino limbo!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Al,
Would you mind posting your insurance info? I'm having a problem finding something suitable that's not hugely expensive. Thanks.

I have taken on board very serious sound advice given here on this forum. I weigh all items before they go on the waiting couch, they then suffer a process of addition or elimination. I have decided to add 3 new items, shock and horror, new sandals/Tevas..my last pair got chewed by the new puppy (2 yrs ago when i got back from Madrid). A new raincoat, ultralight, last Berghaus didn't keep out deluge of rain on the Norte and other newer lighter one might not keep out April showers (Spanish ones)...3rd item is a sleeping sheet/bag, good (meaning expensive) ultralight, not mummy shape. All of these items are in transit. So I too wait and read and post and must get out and walk? are you walking? How heavy is your wash-bag? toothbrush, soap, towel? Camera, phone?. I think you should get a good detective novel and take your mind off waiting, I'm off on the 8th Apr.

Have you tried http://www.direct-travel.co.uk/ or some of the general travel forums for insurance reviews?
Always best to find out who the underwriters are; then pull up the limits etc and compare to more expensive brand.

For any Aussies out there please look at Travel insurance direct au. They are amazing! If you download ther phone app you will also get 10% off. Myself and my well travelled son have used this mob heaps of times. Never a problem with claims and my son had a 'doozie' of one last year involving escort home.

For example my insurance (starting in May with my Camino) runs for 3 1/2 months - including; Spain:Russia and USA - WITH excess removed - $440 AUD

Hi Viv,
How very kind of you to reply.
I have it arranged now thanks to help from Al so although your advice is good, I'm ok now.

Al, only advice I can give you is get a Sudoku book. The puzzles will keep you busy for hours (helpful on the plane/train rides also). No matter how well I thought I was prepared, I still had the last minute "What am I forgetting" jitters :) No worries, didn't forget anything important. Just chill out and before you know it, it will be time to leave. Enjoy!! Buen Camino!!

Hey Al -

I've got a couple of ideas to help with Pre-Camino-Limbo ...
  1. Is there any more 'umulation' to be done at your house? (I read your post on David's Umulation thread so it looks like you're pretty well sorted here). Great rewards for the time spent in the umulation process, particularly when you can donate unused items to your local charity shop ... Go on! Be ruthless!
  2. Are you a member of your local library? I find library books are the biggest time-eating machine, often to the detriment of the other things you really should be doing!

Cheers - Jenny

Hi Al, sorry to hear you're in such a state of suffering :) It is an interesting experience to go to the Esprit de Chemin website from the auberge of the same name at SJPP , download and take a look at the Esprit cards and go through them seeing where that takes you. If that doesn't work, maybe you can file some of the dead skin off the bottom of your feet (not too much though), make up a camino song or write sympathy letters to those of us who can't afford to go this year:) Enjoy your suffering:) :) :) and buen camino!!
