South African girl walking alone

Hi All, my first time doing the camino. Have a few questions and any advice would be hugely appreciated:
-Have 18 days and not sure if I should start in Carrion or in Sahagun?
- Also am female alone and starting to get nervous about it all, not sure if anyone has an opnion on this?
-Starting my journey on 22 september and ending on 11 October any idea of weather? curious if a light weight sleeping bag up to 5 degrees would be good enough?

Thanks so much
Noni from SA

It is enough even for sleeping outdoors. Inside, you may find it a bit warm, but it will be a good, conservative choice, and you will be able to avoid the sometimes-not-too-clean blankets!

Hi Noni!

I think October could be one of the least predictable months so you'd have to be prepared for anything on the stretch you'll be walking. I doubt you'd see snow(!!!) but it could be rainy/sunny, warm/cold or a combination.

Regarding the starting point it might just depend on where/when you're arriving and the transport connections etc. Think about where you really want to end as well. You could even start somewhere further on than the places you mention and rather than ending in Santiago continue to Finisterre or Muxia, for example. That would mean you wouldn't have to worry about arriving in time to get your Compostela and could just take your time. Any further walking might be seen as a bonus or wind-down etc.

Buen Camino!

Hey Noni,

I walked the Camino Frances earlier this year as a solo female and had no problems at all. You meet up with other hikers immediately, so you are only ever alone if you choose to be.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I traveled alone as a female and there was NEVER a problem. Don't worry.

Hi Noni.

I walked the 1,000km Via de la Plata alone with no problems except the occasional dog. The weather in fall is perfect -- cool in the mornings and evenings, warmer during the day. Have fun!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
hi Noni,
i'm going to be walking the Camino around about the same time as you...leaving Ponferrada on the 2nd and getting into Santiago around the 11th as well. And i'm a female pelegrina travelling by myself as well...but i know lots of women who've travelled it by themselves as well so i've no worries about that.
Buen camino and looking forward to hopefully meeting you,
Aine (Ireland)
